Swap info

I have the opportunity to buy a 02 grand marquis 4.6 auto with 129k it was rear ended it was a older mans car runs smooth for 500 bucks. Should I put it in my sixxer it has 90k , how hard is a 01 3.8 auto to a 4.6 auto is it worth it. I know I will have to get a different intake and oil pan headers. Also it's a coil on plug. So what I'm asking is is it worth it

Yeah I think its worth it. That is the PI engine. Its the same engine that is in the 99+ mustang. You could put the grand marquis tranny with it to keep things more simple too. Im not sure what the deal is with the motor mounts on the 3.8 vs the 4.6, but if it needs adapter plate/mounts they are usually under $100. It would be good to swap the ECU over too. If you can do all the work yourself it could probably be swapped in for well under $1000 all said and done. In my area, the price difference between a good condition sixxer and a good condition v8 is more than that. The other thing is this: You know that grand marquis was driven by a grandpa. So the engine has not been beat to ****. When you buy a mustang, you can be assured that it has seen harder use than the majority of other cars you can buy.

If you want a V8, sell your V6 and buy a V8. Not trying to be an *** or a downer or anything but you'll save money that way. You will need the trans out of the Marquis as well and then you'll need to swap the tailshaft housing with a Mustang one since the Mustang ones are shorter. Also going to need fuel, harness, ECU etc... It's not just a drop in. I mean it can be done but if you don't have experience pulling motors and re-wiring cars...

EGR delete is pretty basic you just get the delete plate. But it doesn't really render any noticeable benefits. Since you have the whole mgm to swap parts out of, this swap makes more sense than normal. You can swap the mgm fuel pump, ecu, trans, intake, and whatever else. Just make sure the oil pan is going to cooperate.

If you were piecing this build together from scratch, I would just say hell no. But you have everything you need besides mounts from what I can see. Again, I have never done it so I cant talk too much. I don't know much about the sixxers. Im basically talking out of my azz but it makes sense to me lol

No problem. Oh and you might choose to upgrade your front suspension/brakes down the road. You are going to be going faster and have more weight moving at that faster speed. Not vital right away for daily driving tho
