Ronnie,

Tell your friend that is a beautiful car! I really like white on the older Mustangs!

Strictly for looks. They do not provide protection in a rollover.

They are a throwback to the old Shelby GT500KR convertibles. I really liked the way they looked on those cars, just don't care for the looks on the newer Mustangs. I'm not positive, but if I were to guess, the originals were a functional safety piece.

They do sell roll bars / cages that can be welded in. Those would be functional.

I do think I remember hearing in the past that some convertibles actually have additional strength incorporated into the windshield frame. I thought I remembered reading that way back when I got my '95 T/A, but it's been such a long time.

Yeah I have seen those. That would be cool to have later on. I think a real roll cage would look really good with a supercharger sticking out of the hood lol. Come to think of it, I have actually seen roll cages that you can bolt to the frame that are just like the ones you weld in. Most people also weld those ones in though. Bolted together roll cages work alright in things like Polaris Razrs and rangers, but a car is just too fast and heavy.

Just like welded in subframe connectors are always better than bolted in ones. I wouldn't trust a bolted in roll cage in an actual rollover. Welded in would also stiffen up the car better.

Oh yeah I guess for $300 you have to sacrifice somewhere. Why not safety? lol.

Does that add any rigidity to the car? It looks like it could if it were mounted in a solid way. Kind of like the ones that join the strut towers together in the engine bay.

I like both the coupe and the hard top. I've had a fair share of people tell me that they're not as cool, but I don't care. Driving fast with the top down is fun!

That color helps it pull of the drop top look for sure. Maybe if my car was black it would look better, more like yours.

you could shape the body panels on a cobra like a big old vagina and paint it Barbie pink with flowers on it and it still would be manly as ****.

Friends are just jealous cuz they can't have as nice of a car. So they have to make themselves feel better and degrade your car. IMO, I love verts! It's sick to drop the top on a beautiful day. My next GT will be a vert. I can't wait lol! I would have got a vert instead of my 03 coupe, except that it adds more thing to go wrong (the top, motors, etc.) and I don't need that while I am in college and am poor. After I get a good job, I'll be able to afford it. So even if those things go wrong, I can fix them.

Yes I edit my posts a lot, auto correct likes to sabotage me!

One thing I don't like about verts is how heavy they are. My mustang is focused toward performance so very wasn't an option. Now in the future I do want to get a luxury vert to use to cruise around when it's nice and sunny but not scorching hot out.

Maybe a Maserati lol

I think the weight is almost negligible. The problem I would see with using a vert is the chassis stiffness has to be weaker than the coupe. Either way, I was driving a 96 grand marquis before I got this car. Definite upgrade no matter if it coupe or vert, its got a v8, straight pipes, and a manual transmission. That's a bundle of fun no matter how you slice it.

I wonder how much less a convertible would weigh if you completely removed the top, the frame for the top, the motors, the glass, etc?

Exactly... I'm pretty sure the stang was convertible from the get go!!

I have a 12' gt vert and love it. First car I bought on my own. I get a lot of crap for the vert at times, it's usually the younger generation. People are just jealous. Baby boomers have always appreciated it. Compliments all day long. They see the 5.0 symbol and hear rumble.
Verts are like motorcycles, it's an experience. Everyone that has talked down on a vert and been in my car on a warm summer night end up saying it's pretty nice.
Nothing beats a road trip with music on, top down. And enjoying the liberating feeling.
I know it's Personal taste definitely. I'd like to ask why don't folks like the verts and if so is it from experience or just because...?? Gotta try it I'd like to think.

It is because they never owned one They probably never even had a ride in one as well as never drove one.
As far as looks go, the Mustang Convertible looks great with the top up or top down.

Growing up I always wanted a 65 convertible. When shopping for my car, the salesman tried to sell me a 2014 convertible but where I live, I couldn't justify having something that I may be able to use for only 2 months. For me it's about functionality. They are beautiful. IMO

my grandpa has a Maserati quattroporte. its a pretty sick car. MSRP was like $130k but they depreciate so fast you can get a 4-5 year old one for under $50k. I guess they're made right along side Ferraris, although his has a cross-plane crank, the thing sounds so damn good.

listen to this European muscle lol

why cant you drive a convertible all year round? You can put the top up on most of them haha. Not that I would want to get a brand new vette vert covered in salt/brine.

Winter ice/crud can jack up a vert top and any leaks are exacerbated especially if you are in a balls cold environment. This is one reason I'm very interested in finding a 95 Cobra Hardtop Vert that needs work for $cheap. Higher miles means I won't feel bad driving it and the Hardtop means in the cold months its not going to suck. This is what it was originally intended for but they didn't do well enough for Ford to mass produce a hardtop vert.

Yea I figured most felt that way. Most just haven't driven one. They just assume everyone is a fruit loop..haha
It does make it a so much more enjoyable experience when you have the extra hp. It's really fun and relaxing to just go out at night and cruise when the temp is like 75-80 at night. Put heated seats on. You're good to go.

And I'll go along with the other guy, every girl has enjoyed the vert. Haven't gotten flashed yet though.... Lol

Hating on convertibles?

I actually own a 04 GT convertible with Shaker 1000! I really was just playing! It is great cruising but I prefer a hardtop for performance.

I like some loud music every now and then. Im actually going to keep my mach460 stereo in the car just like it is, and then also install my kicker 500 watt amp with 2, 12" MTX 8000 subs. Later on I am going to upgrade to a soundstream 1800 watt amp. Technically its Power Acoustik, but soundstream makes that brand. Like how ford makes the crown vic as well as the grand marquis.

But yeah, Im just going to wire them with speaker level inputs and run the remote wire from the battery to the amp, with a switch that I can reach. That way I can turn the subs off when I get a headache.

For real though, rag top down so my hair can blow, wfo on some back roads, and subs pounding some Ice ice baby when its time to slow down lol.
