T-45 oil requirements

Last weekend i changed out my clutch package. In past T-5tranny flushes I refilled with Mercon V. But this being a tremec T-45, i looked for my owners manual and could not find it. So I called my local ford dealer service department up to inform me of what type of oil to use. The tech guy asked me for my VIN and after giving it to him, his answer to me was not to use Mercon V, but 75/90 gear oil. I thought. That to be strange, but I went and bought 5 qts of Royal Purple 75/90 and installed it. I have been running it for 4 days now.
Is this info Ford gave me correct? I just want to know for sure before too much time passes and something goes wrong with my transmission based on wrong info.
Keep this in mind, I am looking for facts not preferences. I prefer Royal Purple, I have RP in my diff, and engine too.

Thanks for any real facts.

Doesn't the owners manual say what you should run? I'm pretty sure it's Mercon V, 75W90 is a really thick oil for something like that.

Ah ok I guess I missed that part. I've been running Mercon V in mine since I bought it four years ago.

A quick Google search came up with this: http://www.moddedmustangs.com/forums.../topics/228369

Its not 5 quarts... i hope you don't have 5 in there. I had your luck with synchromesh in the t45 too before I went to the 3650. And gear oil is not correct no... that ford rep sounds like a real winner... Mercon V is the ford recommended fluid btw, i would not drive it with gear oil for far of damaging something.

Drain your transmission Bill and refill it with 6.6 PINTS of a Mercon compatible automatic transmission fluid. Pints not quarts.
That dude at the dealership definitely gave you bad advice.

Yeah I went to pepboys and had them drain it and refill with motorcraft Mercon V. I am going back in 2 weeks to have it drained again and refilled to ensure all the gear oil is out. Freaking Ford and their technician cost me well over $200 in cost of Royal Purple and 2x labor.
