Taken from Steedas under drive pulley description.

Steeda's underdrive pulleys slow down accessory speed by about 25% reducing parasitic acccessory drag on the engine. This drag reduction results in an increase of up to 10 horsepower and increased gas mileage! Get back the horsepower and torque your belt driven accessories steal and start enjoying better performance and gas mileage today!

The gain isn't as drastic. But every little bit helps. Just be careful to not get a cheap piggy back kit such as the BBK kit. They aren't very well balanced and that can ruin an engine very quickly.

Only get Steedas the cheaper ones will mess a lot up. You get what you pay for. I've been running steedas on my car for a full year now.

I believe BBK does have a real pulley set now [Late Model Restoration: BBK SFI Pulley Kit]:
It's $30 more expensive and new (so there's not many, if any reviews), but they are two different materials. BBK's are made of aluminum and a steel crank pulley, while Steeda's are made of all iron.
It's safe to say Steeda is proven to have good quality, so you can't go wrong with it. There are so many of us that have only known of Steeda making a good kit with a real crank pulley, and that's why I mentioned the BBK just to put out there that there actually is another option.

But in Steeda's case they actually did testing and designing in conjunction with Ford to make their pullies and its 30$ less for a brand known for its reliability? Not all but alot of bbk products that I've seen, I will always steer away from there stuff mainly because its over priced and poorly designed in some aspects.

Pulley upgrade doesn't require a tune so once you install it your going to feel a difference right away. The car will rev a bit faster so it will put you in the power band a bit faster. It's honestly one of the better upgrades I did when adding bolt ons.

I would leave the stock alternator pulley on if its a daily driver. I dont know what a mustang rev's like without underdrive though, but as for the performance gain, it reduces the amount of horsepower lost in the drivetrain.

I drive my car every day and I have the Steeda alternator pulley on and have no issues. I've seen where people say it can cause charging problems but I've never run into this with having mine on for over a year now.

Does yours have holes in it? When i bought the car, it said it had steeda underdrive pulleys on it. but the crank looks too old and doesnt say steeda anymore, but from front it looks just like the steeda. the alternator pulley, the small one, is solid, no holes in it. just the water pump has holes. what do yours look like?

I noticed online, the steeda pulleys sold now have holes in them. im hoping that the steeda pulley didnt get lost or something, but i have a big one and a little one. (car came with stock parts in the trunk)

I might look around and find a way to do an electric motor to spin the alternator alternator

Using the power from the alternator to power the motor that powers the alternator.

Genius.

Nah. Crank spins the same, and ecu learns the idle anyway. idk however what youd experience if you swap the pulleys without unplugging the battery and resetting the computer. Probably not much.
