If it's a high flow cat you can still expect to see a CEL. The high flow cat simply doesn't clean up the emissions the way the ECM would like to see. Best solution is to turn them off in a tune. If you have to have cats and live in a state that tests for it you can swap them out for inspection.

Well that's a *****. I was told that with some extensions the cel and the rich smell will clear away. Neither has gone

You don't need extensions. You need CEL eliminators. They plug in between the car side connection and the O2 sensor and produce a resistance that the ECM interprets as working correctly. They're like $50 or something. But it will solve your issue. Also I live in Florida and turned mine off in my tune.

When I put the mid pipe the the drivers O2 did not reach so it just stayed hanging. This the cel and the car running rich. With extensions that light should've gone

How long did you leave it hanging? The o2s are pretty sensitive to getting knocked around believe it or not. You might have damaged it and this could be why your getting the light. Check the code and see if it's because it's not responding correctly or because it's rich.

About 2 months.

But for now it's good I disconnected the battery for about 30 min and wala!

No more cel. Hopefully it lasts.

^it will have to run through its cycles and test everything before it will have a CEL. But I do hope it goes away.

Yea. I drove it for a bit. But realistically it should come back due to the length of the extensions and the ecu not use to it. But hopefully it does. Can be a bit of a nuisance after a while.

The light should go off if everything is good. I changed my complete exhaust on my 04. Put in all 2.5" Pipe, 2-High Flow Cats (Got rid of the upper cats completely), X-Pipe, & 2 Cherry Bomb Glass Packs. I spliced wires together to make my O2 sensors reach. Everything worked perfect & went through emissions in AZ. with no problem.
You either have a bad O2 sensor or your MAF Sensor is dirty. Pull out the MAF Sensor & see if the wires sticking out are black. They should be shiny silver. Usually, if you clean your MAF Sensor, Air Filter & if it runs rough at Idle your IAC Sensor it will clear codes like running rich. If it doesn't...it's a bad O2 sensor.
Been through this stuff a bunch of times.

Hey SquatchMan,

First and foremost I'm really sorry to hear about the trouble you had getting this installed and I'm not sure what had happened here but I'll cut right to the chase! I'd like to cover the installation cost because of the trouble you had to go through. Having been in your position it's no fun having the car on stands or even a widow-maker, needing to pack, get on the road, hours back to school etc. It's awful and I've been there!!!!!

Can you please shoot me a Private Message with your order number and potentially a copy of the receipt for the labor or maybe a screen shot of your credit card statement showing the labor cost that was incurred? I've installed about 4 of these systems on 2V's throughout the years (One on my own '01 Bullitt) and of the 4 mine was the only one that bit back so to speak!

Shoot me a PM and I'll get you some help!

Alex

The video that DiESeven posted shows that the tail pipe has to point straight down to hook it over the axle. You can't get the car that high with just a floor jack. I just had some installed at my local muffler shop and there is no way I could have done that without a lift. I think OP is going to have to take it to a shop as he said his brother is going to do for him. Sorry man.

The code should be for a cat failure not for running rich. Your high flows flow too well, compared to stock so the computer thinks you need new ones. Just get the rear ones turned off and all should be well

Will turning it off get rid of the smell?
