What in the world could cause the car to surge/almost feels like a slight miss will riding at a steady speed in town? Barely touching the gas only to maintain 40/45mph and at idle it does the same thing! And no check engine light!! I could be wrong please help me out a fuel injector or fuel pump hick up could cause this and not trip the check engine light right?? All ideas welcome

Torque converter shudder. It's a common problem with our cars. A tranny oil change usually fixes it.

The only thing is the car has a rough idle at times (motors nervous) is what I call it so at idle trans wouldn't be the issue and with no check engine code Iam pissing in the wind here

I read about almost the same issue on another site. And there was a small debate on either the trans shudder or a COP. Same issue, wasn't throwing a code or CEL turned out for him it was a COP. So you could start with those two things and eliminate them if they aren't the problem.

is a torque converter shudder that quick vibration and slight momentary drop in rpm while sitting at a light? or does it only happen while driving?

2002 gt automatic

The shudder in mine felt like a miss around 35-45 mph depending on throttle position and engine load. When I researched it on google I found out about the torque converter shudder. I changed the fluid a couple times doing pan only oil and it seemed to stop completely. I also added a tube of DR tranny toque converter shudder stop.

ive heard a lot of good things about that shudder stop stuff. a lot of people use it on fleet vehicles, and some smaller shops throw it in and call it fixed and take money for the labor. the little red packet things, right?

Yea but you should use it when you change the tranny oil for best results.

Could be the torque converter but I would start with the COPs or just Order the rebuild kit and do all of them as It's not a bad thing to do on an older engine. Couldn't it Also be an alternator on It's way out? I have heard some crazy things happening with a bad alternator

That damn church sensor can be a pain, lol. Jk. I would start looking at your cops if you haven't already. Hopefully It's something simple like that.

Broke out the scan tool looked at a ton of values on the car while running and driving all looks good. Sitting in the drive way car in neutral holding the Rpms at 1500 the car has a skip/miss/Hicup no check engine light no miss fires fuel pressures good. Only thing that makes any since to me is an injector that's spraying properly but maybe dropping a drop of fuel cause the hiccup. At road speed cars fine this only happens at or near 40/45 mph at 1300-1600 Rpms with just enough throttle being applied to maintain speed. Iam as lost as an Easter egg at Xmas time on this anyone have any suggestions

There is going to be a ton of people on here saying to run only OEM COPs. But I have talked to two of my friends about the subject. One is a pro mod mustang racer and the other is a master mechanic with 45 years experience. Both say MSD COPs will work just fine. In fact I asked my mechanic friend about Accel COPs vs. MSD COPs. He said, " well I changed out all my Accel crap for MSD if that tells you anything." (Referring to his Chevelle.) As far as your issue. I still think you should look into a tranny oil change. It could still be your torque converter.

People like me say to run only OEM COPs because they do last longer and there is no upgrade at all going to aftermarket AND you can rebuild OEM cops for $30 for the entire set. The electronic portion of the COP rarely goes out on an OEM unit, its the boot and the spring that gets messed up over time and that is what you replace.

Slater the only thing that's years me from the trans is sitting in park in the driveway hold the car at 1500 Rpms and the same miss is there trans isn't engaged at all so it couldn't cause the problem.

The torque converter would still be spinning. Go smell your tranny fluid. If it smells burned or like melted crayon you might want to change it. I'm not saying it is 100% the problem. Just giving you an idea of what mine was.
