Yet Another New Guy Thread:)

Hi I'm Dalton and recently just got into modding my mustang. I bought the car with a Borla catback exhaust, under drive pulleys, and a KN cold air intake. But I was wondering on what I could do to it to get alittle more horse power. It's a 2004 Ford Mustang GT 40th Aniversary. I was looking at a Bama tuner and 4.10 gears. But what is the difference from 3.73 and 4.10? I'm not worried about mpg. But with the 4.10s my friends where saying I may lose some top speed. I kinda just wanna spin tires from a stop and go. Thanks for your guys input ahead of time let me know what you guys think

Ah, the gears debate goes long and hard lol. If you aren't worried about MPGs, then you are golden for 4.10's. You don't really loose top end. Besides, you'll be going 0 - 60 way more often than 100 - 150. American Muscle has Bama tuner and gear combo's for sale now I believe. You'll love the gears. Best bang for your buck as far as modding goes.

if you dont care about highway mpg, then go 4.10s. the only top speed you will lose is higher than what you would hit in a quarter mile race i believe. Theres a guy on here named soccerluvr, he has a bullit with 4.10's and he seems to love em.

as far as power goes, do you want to boost it? nitrous is cheap and theres a few threads that go into detail about that. theres a few threads about good quality options for boosting as well. otherwise, get yourself some good bolt ons. Stick with good brands too. Trickflow is a good setup for your throttle body and plenum. I have a c&l plenum and 75mm bbk throttle body myself. otherwise, get yourself a good suspension setup and get all that available power to the ground.
welcome to the forums.

a grand will get you a nitrous kit with the bells and whistles to make it safe and effective. bama tuners are a good way to wake it up if you have bolt ons. american muscle has a combo deal where you can buy gears and a tuner together. make sure you change out the bearings and whatnot while your in there. full bolt ons and a tuner should hit you around 300-310 i believe at the wheels. might need a more personal tune than bama for that according to some.
but the bama tunes certainly dont seem bad. the reps mentioned that they spend a lot of time working with mustangs exclusively to write tunes for different setups. if you go to a shop, they can work more 1 on 1 with your car i guess.

In all honesty I have to find the size of my cold air intake and what exactly is on my car. But I plan on getting the Bama tuner with the 4.10 gear combo on American Muscle any other suggestions?

nothin i can think of off hand. just look into tips for washing and detailing. i use surf city garage products myself. others on here use adams and croftgate among others. theres a pretty good wealth of info here, covering things like transmission issues, weird idles, strange noises, etc.

Hey Dalton - Good question here and just like azure had said if you're not too concerned about the fuel consumption shoot for the 4.10's and Bama X4 Tuner right out of the gate. Having run both if I could turn back time I would've shot for the 4.10's first it was that much of a difference. The car didn't feel lethargic like it couldn't get out of its own way. Put simply between the gears they're going to put you more in a sweet spot in the RPM range

Any way you can take a picture of what you're working with and have it posted up here so we can help identify what you're working with?

Let me know if you have any other questions and I'm here to help!

nitrous and tunes cost the same amount of money.

Nitrous adds 100 hp
Tune adds 7 horsepower.

As far as fun per dollar, nitrous is unbeatable

I wouldn't run nitrous in my engine, but that's me. You'll kill your engine. The cheapest way to HP is never the best way.

Without even knowing what transmission you have all of these answers won't even be accurate. Need much more information.

Nitrous wont kill your engine. Being an idiot with nitrous will kill your engine. Same with any kind of real mod that actually makes your car go faster.

Haha! I know. I knew that would wake people up and get more participants.

Yes, I agree. It's people that use it or install it wrong.

OP In all seriousness, gears will be your most bang for your mod dollars. I bet all will agree with that. Plus, the tuner will come in handy if you decide to add nitrous later. I'm assuming you need to adjust your tune for that.

Just read through cliffys beginners guide. Their is great info in there. If you do all the mods he lists you will feel a huge difference. I Wish I would have read it and did exactly that before I started throwing stuff at mine in a random Order.

Another thing to do is every new car to you should get a full fluid change. Engine oil, tranny oil, rear end oil and engine coolant change. Also change your spark plugs! Consider a coil on plug rebuild and run a couple tanks of good fuel injector cleaner through the car. Change the fuel filter and air filter. Do all that you should be good for a while.

Welcome to the forum. There are a bunch of good people on here that are willing to answer your questions. I have the same car pretty much, and I know what you mean about wanting to change gears. My stock 3.27 are pretty wussy out of the hole.
