2003 Auto trans

03 GT auto with 119K miles. When speeding up to say 75 mph, going from third to fourth gear, it will rev up and then shift. Don't feel normal. No vibration or any sort. Fluid still reddish.

Get ready to buy a trans is all I can say! Sounds like a clutch drum issue! My truck (I once owned) was doing the same thing

I'd have to say its getting ready to go as well. I mean its always an excuse to get a good converter in there and a fresh trans tho lol.

What I would do is find a low mileage pullout transmission from a 2004 Mustang. ONLY a 2004. Those are the factory upgraded 4R transmissions and only came in 2004 and you can get them for cheap with lower miles. Only thing you need to do to install one in your car is actually install it and then have a tuner change the OSS pulse setting in your computer from 6 to 24.

Also I'd look at a good stall converter for it while its all out. A good converter will turn your car into a launching machine provided you have a decent suspension setup out back and some 4.10s.

I agree 100% with whAt he just posted ford uses stamped clutch drums the upgrade it stronger trannies is one piece clutch drums and the converter speaking from experience and a gear makes it fun to drive!!! Pa transmission offers some bad *** transmissions with a killer warranty for around 2k they go up from there but they are loaded with good parts

Silverfox makes some good transmissions too but seriously, the 2004 variant is really really strong. Like think "built" from the factory. Upgrade the stub shaft from 23 to 26 spline and a fresh one will hold a ****load of power. Or just wait till you snap the 23 spline shaft lol.

You doing it yourself? $300-$500 for a good used 4R75W, $600-$1200 for a good converter and then fluids will be $100 or so. Not factoring in a tune because most ppl have tuners and if not its something you should do regardless.

Tack on whatever a local shop will charge labor wise for a trans swap if you are not DIY. Going to an aftermarket converter and a solid automatic with a j-mod/shift kit will knock a ton of time off your ET just by itself.
