Fuel Gauge help

This is my first post on here,
My fuel gauge on my 96 gt 4.6 is always reading full, I disconnected the wring harness and it never moved, I moved the needle on the cluster and it goes back to full.
I have only had this car for about 2 months and it was working then it started reading weird then stuck on full, I am assuming it is the sending unit in the trunk but I do not want to go through all that trouble unless I am sure.
I know if it looses ground it will automatically go to full can anyone tell me which wire on the plug by the tank is for the sending unit ground and which is power so I can do an ohm check and a ground check also any other advice would be great.
