2000 GT, no hood scoop

Hey guys, I'm looking at buying a 2000 GT. I've noticed it doesn't have a hood scoop, only has the V6 style hood. The owner says it has never been wrecked and that he is the only owner. Did some GTs come factory without a hood scoop? On a side note, it has 90,000 miles and is a 5 speed with short throw, stage 1 racing clutch, and CAI. Seems to be in very good condition. He's asking 7,500 for it, does this sound like a fair price? KBB says $5,000. I'd like to at least get it for 7,000. Thanks in advance guys!Click image for larger version

Ford was weird with hoods. Yes some gts came with that hood like the v6s and the sixxers also had the 99/01 cobra hood... I'm sure you noticed the side vents are the same as 01 and up sixxers i believe

Alright, I have seen several like that but assumed they had been wrecked and replaced with a V6 hood. I currently have an 01 V6 so this was blowing my mind. Haha thank you for putting me at ease. If I want a hood scoop I can drill holes and throw one on, correct? Or am I better off with a different style hood?

I don't know in all honesty. I think my friend used double sided tape on his hood scoop

Not worth 7,500. But good luck finding one as good as that. And low miles for less. Theyre inflated as hell in some areas. The mods it has do not increase its value at all. But sime schmuck will pay that much for a non fixer upper. So it depends if its worth 7 grand to you. Definitely low ball him at 5,500 and work up to hopefully no more than 6,500.

99 to 00 have that hood, v6 looking scoops, and that particular spoiler. Has a windsor engine and t45 tranny up to mid 01. I think mid 01 is when the design changed on the outside but not sure. But engine and tranny changed mid 01.
Yes you can drill but be very careful. Dont want it off center. You can always pull a hood off another one. You may prefer no hood scoop. I wanted to remove mine but it has holes. Otherwise underneath, same exact hood minus the black plastic piece in the fake hood vent.

You will probably regret paying more than $2k above KBB private party excellent condition. The KBB excellent price should be your starting price and go down (even if the car is excellent) it's still 15 years old, 90k miles and not a specialty or collector edition.
BUT based on the apparent current owners garage in the posted pics, it looks like the Mustang was well cared for...the owner has a neat garage, a John Deere and not a cheaper lawn tractor, and a motorcycle, all kept inside a garage and not a garage filled with junk. These are sometimes indicators that a person takes care of their belongings.
A safe gamble for you is to offer $5k, show him the KBB snapshot you posted as your reasoning and then wait for him to contact you in a week or two. There's a very good chance no one else will offer him more.
If he's posted it on CL, he will soon get tired of all the low ball random texts and emails.
You post a car for $7500 on CL and weirdos randomly send texts saying $3000 cash! It's so much fun.

The 35th anniversary package GTs came with a hood scoop and the 01+ had scoops as well. 2000 GTs and V6s had the scoop pictured. Here's my old 2000 with the same hood

The 99-00 GT's had the standard factory hood without the scoop. Same as the 99-02 v6's.

Two special 99 and 00 models had hood scoops, but they were smaller in height compared to the +01.
The special edition 35th anniversary GT's had the small scoop as well as the 00 spring edition GT's.

In 01, all GT's had the larger hood scoop that everyone is familiar with. It was on the 01 Bullitt as well as pony package 03/04 v6's.

You can add the hood scoop to your car but plan on drilling to mount it. The rear of the scoop is mounted with 4-6 bolts while the sides are attached via adhesive. There used to be a decent install guide and template out there to follow. All I can say is measure twice and drill once.

Alright, thanks everyone for the advice. Only other question is should i go for the car even though it's listed at least 2,000 above the KBB price?

Realistically, no, unless you cant wait til you find another one in good condition and low miles. Rare but not a once in a lifetime thing. I only paid 5,500 for my gt but I should have waited. Its not bad, just could have done better. I got anxious. Its your money, so if you think you can sleep at night paying extra to get it done and over with, and have a nice clean mustang, then go for it. Still, do your best to talk him down.
