01' gt 2nd cat delete and now I'm running rich I believe.

So finally had some time to get under my 2001 gt. I removed the secondary catalytic converters and punched out the main ones. Just ran a straight pipe from the main ones to where I had made the cut. Everything went well and there's a good difference in the sound and response that I was looking for. So knowing that once I removed them I was going to smell more fumes and that's fine because I'm in Michigan lol. But I'm starting to think I'm actually running a bit rich. I can smell more gas. I have heard that it's going to tamper with your o2 sensors and that you should get (mil) sensors?? I guess my question would be... can the cat delete make you run richer bc of the o2 sensors? Should I get these other sensors? Or is this all normal lol.

Yes. Especially during cold starts.
These cars are tuned to run pretty rich from the factory, so the exhaust smell is going to be more noticeable with the cats removed.

Is your Check Engine Light on?

It was already on for evaporative emissions. :/ that grommet from the filler tube into the gas tank. So I still need to go get it checked out to see I'd any new codes were thrown.

That's weird I just got a p0443 code for purge canister evap system also. Having similar issue. Changed purge canister but still have the code. No cel though. My gf lives Ford rd and Wayne I'm usually out by canton Sunday's cruising with her shopping etc. Should meet up sometime. Yes it very normal to smell fumes. I've actually had people roll up there Windows behind me in the dead of summer because of fumes and or noise haha.

We should try to have a mustang evolution member cruise here in Michigan. Pick a spot, date, time etc. Or at least Maybe the week or the week before the Woodward cruise. I like going down Woodward all summer myself on Friday and Saturday nights, starts getting busy in June/July both nights. I Also like the week before the week the cruise starts, lots of cool cars but not as crazy busy. Anyway let me know if anyone is interested. I work with a guy with a mustang that would be interested Also.

Check what color your injectors are. I think in 01 they were both orange and pink, the pink ones are #21 injectors and Ford never updated the tune from the orange #19s when they switched so the 01.5-04 cars are already rich from the factory. Get rid of the cats and you will for sure smell gas.

You should have the car tuned regardless though.

They are orange. How much does a tune cost? And should that wait until I actually put an after market mufflers on?
