Man even with that low mileage huh? I guess it's more the sitting and age that does that. At least you caught it now. Cheap enough fix but I know you were really trying to stick to your budget. Those little things here and there always add up

Its more time and heat cycles than mileage. Especially a car like a Vic owned by an old person. Going to be running around town at low rpm at low speed so not as much coolant flow and a lot hotter temps than tooling down the highway. I was kinda expecting this TBTH...

Ha, and all the rest of the parts on your car to make it bolt right up?

Like your alternator and all the brackets and the other little BS things?

I'll probably just do another PI or just say **** it and get the Eddy.

If I end up with a coyote swap then I probably will sell it. Because that is one thing that absolutely will not go back in if I hit rock bottom and sell it.

Lol yeah well I will get whatever intake I settle on when the new motor is in the car. Don't need to worry about it till then. Most likely a new PI intake. Kinda hard to beat for the money although having this **** happen a second time to me in as many years even though they are 2 different motors... making a strong case for the Eddy.

Speedhut gauges finally came in. I am le excite. Going to clean and spray the autometer instrument bezel either straight black or I might match it to the charcoal. I have both dyes.

The gauges themselves are great and perfectly match the wideband I got. Will not match the autometers that came in the car but those will be on the pillar and these ones that all look the same will be right in front of me.

Not that I that i would necessarily recommend reusing 10+ year old plastic intake manifolds but it will be interesting to see what condition that the manifold, currently on your car, is in.

It really does seem like those things have a "shelf life"!

I'd like to know how many aftermarket itakes they have sold through the years lol. Brilliant idea from ford. I can hear them now. Well, we'll get money out of them. We will make this part ummmm, plastic!

The plastic is lighter and cheaper, but you could not have a factory aluminum intake that smooth internally and be cost effective.

The PI intake is a spectacular performer no doubt about it. One thing I have heard helps and I did it with my 98 is run a 180 stat so it opens sooner and you don't have as much hot coolant pooling right there. However the modular runs better a little hotter so w/e.

Somehow my plastic Expy intake is still going strong at 125k miles and its 12 years old. KNOCKS ON WOOD.

I du no if I will be there. The car definitely will not.

I'm going to do everything this fall/winter and start dding it next spring.

Glad you found this forum, always good to know you are a true enthusiast and my old 98 is in good hands. My dad still says that one was "the keeper" haha. It definitely is one of the cleanest sn95s out there.

Gah stahp it you are making me miss her! Lol.

In other news, when I pulled the last piece of vinyl off the roof of this silver car, it took a big chunk of paint with it. Apparently that is common and not something the vinyl ppl mention. I have a few bare metal spots and am at this point very likely to limp this car 3 miles to a place that can paint it, get that done and limp it home and then do the motor. Last thing I want is to leave bare metal for long and have the rest of the roof start rusting.

I've put way too much effort into this damn roof... probably just going to get it done, done right and forget about it. Need to get this motor going. Started squats this week and the knee felt fine but the rest of my legs... ow... but that means moving a cherry picker around should be no problem.

I have a week off from the 18th-27th. Goal is to get the roof done and the motor out that week. Also need to get a lot of maintenance done on the truck and CRV.

Nothing like the feel of the hamstrings and quads after squating for the first time in awhile. You still got a hell of a deal regardless of all of this roof stuff.

I was just wondering because I'm going to have to use the VA to fuse my spine together. Wondering how all his surgeries went with them. Also you could shoot some self etching primer on those bare metal spots till you're ready.

Maybe he will chime in soon. Is really like to reprint my car. It isn't all that bad. But I'm a detail freak. My girlfriend backed into my car over the weekend. Didn't do much and you had to really look to see the spot. She cried and cried tho.

Yea same with mine. I have to drive down a 2 lane highway for a long ways every day and they're building an interstate which truck load after truckload of dirt and rocks get dumped there daily. I have a bunch of those little chips and flakes in my windshield now.

They just look like little bugs. Do you think they will grow? Or will they stay as little chips?

Uh, yeah I had trouble walking the next day haha. I donated my old weight set to our work and it gets used regularly, now by me finally again. Just had 45s on the bar doing squats, 5 sets of 12. Just wanted to get back into it but probably should start increasing the weight and bring down the reps a little. What happens when you are told stop working out for over a year...

As I'm still active, I do not deal with the VA. I went through the Tricare Prime network and found a surgeon of my choosing that does work for the Eagles and Giants and went with him. Couldn't have turned out better.

Now as for the vinyl or getting the roof redone... I had thought about shooting some self etching primer on it and just leaving it till done which I might do. I also kicked around sealing the bare spots with the primer and just some cheap duplicolor and sanding it smooth, the spots are not huge. And then throwing the vinyl on top of that temporarily until I got the whole car touched up/resprayed.

The biggest thing I do not want to deal with is rust on that roof again and I am afraid that if I just use the spray cans and then cover it I'll have issues. So I'll ask around and see what the damage will be. Can't imagine doing the easiest panel on the car will be super much $$$ in the grand scheme of things.

I swear to god, there will be happenings this weekend/coming week. I have an entire week off. I am GOING to get the front of this car off and my main goal by the end of it all is to have the motor right in front of me and ready to be pulled and also the ****ing roof done once and for all lol.

If it's only surface rust, I'd sand the crap out of it and seal it and be done with it too bro. That going back and redoing gets old fast.

That's exactly what I'm doing. I reminded myself why I hate the auto parts stores so much today going to autozone and grabbing some duplicolor primer and ford silver metallic. Going to do a quickie spray/sand/spray/sand hit it with some color, make sure its all smooth, let it dry for 3 or 4 days and then wrap it. Whilst I am awaiting for it to dry I'm going to start tearing off the front end and boxing up/marking everything.
