Brought it home today finally. Anyone not following my other thread, I only paid $5500 for 34k original miles because it has a blown motor. Looking for replacement motors already and found a ton of real low mile Vic engines locally. Car is not perfect... Little nitpcky things that drive me bonkers that I will get on immediately.
Honestly... Not really much to do after I swap the motor out and cosmetic stuff. I'll list the build sheet when I get on a computer.
Welp as soon as I can actually get anything shipped here again I'll order one lmao. Thanks for the advice. Going to put the fake scoop for the 01-04 cars on my hood, matte vinyl wrapped and matte vinyl on the raised part of the hood as well. Will pull the old messed up gloss vinyl off my roof and redo that in matte black as well plus a Steeda wing and I'm still kicking around a 00R or Saleen bumper. I know the R is super low but the roads here are actually super good and I do plan on tracking the car. Will be how I roll with the car until I finally track down a wrecked 03/04 V6 in Spain and get the damn hood off it. Or pony up and have one shipped here but that's like $1400 shipped to my door or $800 to Madrid and I'll have to fight them over adding 28% IVA and import taxes and its 6hrs away.
Anyway, driving the car tomorrow to run the gas tank down to "fumes" and then doing the fuel pump. I know the check valve in the pump is bad because if I cycle the pump 3 or 4 times the car fires instantly but if I don't it chugs over and starts hard. Also the new one is the Walbro 300lph one so that'll be good for as fuel flow goes for as much power as I'll ever make. Then I'm going to install the catback just to get it on the car and out of being a bigass box taking up space in my shed. And do the bolt on subframes before I put the catback on, I will have them welded as soon as everything opens back up.
And I really freaking hope my MM front control arms ship at some point soon, that is legit the only thing that didn't come in before everything went to hell so I can't do **** with the front suspension till they do. Worst case I guess I figure out how to get some rebuilt stockers from Amazon ones the mail starts again and run them for however many months it takes until MM gets off their ass.
I will say this about MM... the company is SUPER dickish and they take FOREVER to get anything done. If it's not in stock at the time you'll be waiting months for them to actually get their stuff built and back from powdercoating and shipped. I called customer service to talk to them about coilover rates and the guy basically hung up on me because I bought my K member from LMR vs them even though I was going to get the coilovers and springs from them but I couldn't even let the guy know before he started going off so I hung up. MM does have probably the best stuff for your average street car or even American Iron racer but holy **** they are full of themselves. I will not be buying anything from them in the future since I already have everything I need. Steeda for the strut tower brace, I did BBK for the subframes and I got everything MM I could from LMR. LMR has been more than helpful and I will continue to buy from them first before trying CJP or Summit/Jegs or (shudder) AM.
That seems like a hell of a lot of money for a hood.
Hopefully the fuel pump solves the problem. I'll be interested in the results. It might motivate me to do mine! Lol. I've had the new pump for several years now, waiting to be installed.
MM probably just doesn't want to deal with you foreigners....
🤪
Fine so far... locked down in our houses, I go out to get groceries and check in at work from time to time since I'm technically essential personnel but I only need to be in a few times a week to check the high side and emails.
Hopefully I'll do the pump manana, it actually looks pretty simple to drop the tank out to do a pump. Then battery box install if not full relocation I'll at least get the box bolted down since the tank needs to come down for that. Fuel light is on so the tank should be light enough to lift out, I hope...
Didnt get to it today aaaannndd... its gonna be pouring ass rain the next 5 days and as nice as my carport is I just don't want to deal lol. I'll get to it. Meantime I can start getting work done on my RC warbirds. Got a giant scale P-40 and a 70" wingspan Corsair. Both of those are gas powered. I have a Westland Lysander with a 70" span but that's a baby engine and slow and methanol fuel. Also an electric 70" Valiant that is sort of like a Piper Cub.
Been out of RC for like 4 months due to life, work and this Coronavirus now... I hope I know where everything is lol.
The good news is internet is great here and all my USA services work, everywhere that sells any sort of food sells beer as well and I'm g2g tonight with Tiger King on Netflix and some local Cerveza.
Do you mean Westland "Lysander"?
All of the warbirds sound pretty darned cool!
So are these kits that you need to assemble? Or some sort of ARF affair?
The last time that I flew my plane, it did not require a FAA registration number. It must have been 5-6 years ago.
Yes Lysander... lol. Edited. There are basically no kits nowadays in the mainstream, ARFs or foamies are what everyone flies. Lots of EDFs too which is the only type of foam airplane I'd fly. And lots of electrics and electric only clubs now. Batteries are so good you can fly 6-10 minutes or even longer on a single charge and recharge in 20-30 minutes so ppl with generators or clubs with power can fly all day. I still like fuel myself and longer flight times but I'm running some electric. I've got a 30cc boxer gas 2 stroke for the Corsair, a 35cc single piston gas 2 stroke for the P40 and a 4 stroke .52ci methanol engine for the Lysander. Valiant is going to be electric and I've got a Revolver which is kinda like an Extra 300 that I'm probably going to put a 20cc gasser in.
Yes. It took dedication in the days when a kit, or from scratch with only a set of plans, were the only options. And then to go risk it in the air after all of the hard work.... That's why I bought a Multiplex! Very little emotional investment when it inevitably gets crashed! Lol
Well, post some pictures when you get them ready to fly!
Yep will do, I have a tendency to crash so I usually get stuff easier to fly although that Corsair isn't exactly simple. Not exactly hard either. Stuff has come a long way since even when I started back in the mid 90s. Everything is "smart" now, radios are dirt cheap for crazy good ones (look up the Jumper T16 Pro), you only need one TX that'll bind to a ton of RXs, can put a gyro in anything and now with super long range stuff like the FrSky R9 you can FPV something like an E Flite Opterra out as far as your video signal can go. I'm half tempted to fly a quad off my roof deck this summer out over the beach and around the lighthouse which is probably only 2-3 minutes away for a regular speed quad.
The inexpensive miniaturized electronics, that came about around the turn of the century, really made the hobby accessible and affordable for the masses.
My Multiplex Easy Star is just a slow, 2-axis trainer, and I have probably been ready for something with ailerons for a while now, but it is still a lot of fun to fly. I've never seen it advertised as such, but i was pleasantly surprised to discover that it actually works reasonably well as a motor-glider, providing the correct atmospheric conditions are present, of course. That's my favorite thing to do with it, is to take it up 3-4-500 ft AGL and hunt around for thermals in the evenings, and turn off the motor. Ive had many 30-45+ minute flights, several times, only having to land due to the impending darkness.
I think that it is because of the relatively lightweight of around 28 ounces, that a airplane with a 54 inch wingspan is able to do that. Probably a pretty efficient airframe as well.
In any case, even including the fact that it took me two airframes to learn how to fly a RC airplane, because, in my infinite wisdom, I thought that it would be a good idea to teach myself to fly, it has still been a enjoyable hobby for not a lot of money.... So far! Lol.
Haha I learned to fly at a field/club with an instructor in the mid 90s. I didn't really fly a lot again until last year. I had a friend's used foamie to crash a bunch until I figured it back out and then a trainer that I piled in only because the ignition pickup game loose on the motor and it deadsticked way too far away from the field. I coulda probably fixed it but I have a bunch of other planes. I kinda want to get a really big Navy Piper Cub from HobbyKing since I can have it shipped free over here. It calls for a 20cc but I have a 26cc 2 stroke that is only a touch heavier and is basically a "hot rod" 20cc.
I really need to get the rest of them completed tho... I have 2 that are 90% done and then my P40 is started also.
Well, so any update on the pandemic there in Spain?
They've been "baby-stepping" us into progressively longer self-isolation.... Currently until May 1, but I expect it will run into the middle of May here in California.
Hopefully, things are looking better for you guys over there....
Parliment is voting on whether to extend it to 10 May with a gradual restriction of the lockdown or to let it end on 27 April but it will still be a gradual thing. Spain has been real good with the quarantine, nothing like the idiots in some places out protesting the lockdown with AR15s... I swear to god I don't get ppl sometimes...
Anyway, I've been busy banging away at the "honey do" list around the house since I've been home. All the projects that got put off because of work or whatever but now that I'm home all this time. Been pouring ass rain the last week and a half so I haven't been able to do **** with the car...
I also got our stimulus money that we really don't need but won't say no to $2900 for married couple with 1 kid. So I put $2k in the bank and used the other $900 plus a little more out of my "toy fund" to buy a 110" wingspan B-24 Liberator bomber lol. Free shipping to anywhere in the world from HobbyGulf= I save $500-$700 in shipping because its a massive box. I have a feeling this bomber will wind up being a single run and places that have it are looking to move inventory so it was now or never.
The VQ B-24 LIBERATOR 110 model is an exciting replica of the original WWII Bomber that helped turn the tide of WWII and was loved by its crew. This amazing bomber penetrated deep ...

Damn, the price went up too... I paid $1260 shipped literally last night... wow...
I was kind of hoping to hear you say "They've sounded the all clear over here. We're going dancing tonight at the club". (Wishful thinking)
Now I'm starting to think the end of May, over here....
I've been pruning walnut trees to pass the time....And everything else that grows on this property! Haha
I usually only have one big burn pile of brush and leaves every year. This year I had to build three!
That B-24 is AWESOME! Holy crap! That's a long wingspan!
Shouldn't be any problem seeing that in the sky.
When I was getting my Private Pilot License in the late 80's, there were still a bunch of the WW2 pilots kicking around the airport. One of them had built a RC B-17 with a similar wingspan as that B-24. It was huge! It took two transmitters, and two pilots to fly it. All hand built. It seemed pretty incredible at the time.
Yeah that was likely a kit built from Don Smith plans. Those are pretty crazy and crazier is that Don drew everything by hand. People still build Don Smith stuff today, the person who owns the copyrights to the plans sells laser cut kits and licenses the plans out to other cutters as well. You can watch on Youtube Don Smith B-17s, 24s, 29s etc... Those 17s are 1:9 scale normally, this one is 1:10 scale. And almost every single damn one of them is electric. I don't mind electrics but this thing whirring by just kills any sort of soul this plane would have otherwise. I'm putting four .52ci 4 strokes in it all converted to CDI running on a custom home mixed 0% methanol. I remember growing up there were so many WW2 vets all over the place in the late 80s/early 90s and I even met a WW1 vet that came to our school, dude was in his mid 90s. Now the last WW1 vet died years ago and there are very few WW2 vets. Ah well... nothing screws you harder than time...
As for the lockdown over here... still no word if parliment is lifting the restrictions starting on the 27th but we'll see. I hope so... if not it'll be 10 May. Spain legit does have it under control but the worry is we'll have a 2nd round of cases if we go back to "normal" too soon. I'm seriously worried for the US tho... you have some States taking it seriously and then others protesting with AR15s out in huge crowds with no PPE or distancing to open the gov't back up... I swear if it wasn't so contagious I'd say just let them all congregate and may the odds be ever in their favor...
But... its all good here still. I've been getting paid like normal because active duty, I even got the full stimulus for me and my wife and my kid lol. I feel kinda bad but me getting it doesn't mean someone else doesn't so... into savings it went. Minus that B-24 lol. The house has never been cleaner because we both tag team cleaning every day, just like I'm sure your trees have never been so pruned lol. Built my wife a real nice home office, built new PCs for me, my kid, my wife and 2 friends. Been messing with the RC airplanes and the Max Motorsports front control arms finally came in so I can put the stang up on jackstands and get to work. I can't even really drive it till the lockdown is over and I get the front end aligned anyway.
Sorry for the long post, its legit that boring right now haha. Watching BBC America, a Hawaiian friend made spam sushi and left it on the door so I could go pick it up without it being dangerous and got a 6 pack so... it could be way worse. Stay safe over there and I really hope all goes well there. Cali seems like it at least has some of its **** together as far as dealing with the virus so... again stay safe man.
I feel bad for the people who are suffering a major economic setback during this crisis. I know personally that the prospect of losing everything that you've worked for is a damned hard pill to swallow. We are beginning to see the despair and frustration surface.
And what will next Fall bring us?
I don't think that we will be back to anything that even resembles "normal" for at least a couple of years.... But, I am hopeful that I will be able to get a haircut before that time! Lol
Yes, electric warbirds just seem wrong. Especially multi-engine. Probably more appropriate for something more modern. A giant electric C-130 wouldn't seem too far out of character perhaps?
These giant RC aircraft have got me thinking... "How big can you go?" The answer seems to be, "As big as you want!" As long as it weighs less than 55 lbs. Anything heavier requires additional scrutiny from the FAA.
Sometimes I peruse the aviation section of Craigslist, and I have seen quite a few ultralight aircraft that have been sitting for years. Nobody in their right mind would ever want to fly them without doing major restoration work, but what about installing a receiver and some servos into one? It would be the biggest plane at the flying field for sure! Haha
A person would definitely want to be covered under a flying clubs liability insurance policy!
Yeah the ppl who fly out on their own in parks or even fields behind neighborhoods are asking for it. They lose control and crash they have a very real chance of hurting or killing someone or doing major property damage. Its like crashing a flying weedwhacker like... right into someone's kid or something... no.
As far as people losing everything... yeah we are seeing how jacked up the economy really always was. Very few have savings or captial to weather this for as long as its gone or much longer. Sucks... They are going to HAVE to reopen everything up in the summer regardless or ppl are just gonna start going out en masse. I still don't know if the lockdown here is going to get lifted slowly starting next monday or if I'm stuck inside till the middle of May...ugh.
And yeah I need a haircut... Its gonna be funny seeing some ppls hair the first few days back before we can all get haircuts. I'm very wooly...
Pulled the whole console and cluster and radio/hvac out yesterday.
Was kicking around a terminator cluster... I can deal with PATS disabled but I would need to find one with similar mileage because I like having my low mileage displayed lol. In the end I decided to just do the bulbs and keep the meh steeda whitefaces. Maybe at some point I'll get a stock 99-04 GT cluster and swap the circuit boards and put some overlays on.
Also finally broke down and got a MGW shifter with the race handle. It is way way nicer than even the triax. Lmr leather shift boots for the e brake and shifter.
Pulling the autometer cluster bezel and finally painting it charcoal and installing my speedhut oil and water plus putting the wideband on the column.
What else... Interior wise that's really it.
Finally been nice out for a few days with no rain forecast so gonna drop the tank and do the pump today or I might blast all the paint off the longtubes with a torch and then work on painting them. Or both...
So as I usually do I get tired of a "toy" and move to something else and then swing back. Summer in Spain and the amount of people and "wannabe fast" cars here plus some of the most gorgeous women you'll ever see in one place have got me back on this horse. I'm married and not trying to pick any up obviously but getting a solid 9/10 tan Spanish woman to come over to the car to see it or even flash you if you rev it... I can think of worse places to live... Plus with 42 known cases of Covid in the whole entire province and the number continuing to decline all over the country... yeah I'm taking 2 weeks off for my bday and thew wife's bday and I'm gonna get all the parts installed.
Only thing I'm changing up is I am going to leave the 3.27s in it for right now and I'm probably not going to use the Pacesetters. Having a real hard time with putting cheap aluminized budget headers on the car when everything else that is going on is top end. So... probably gonna suck it up and get the on-sale set of JBA mid length ceramic stainless plus their offroad pipe. Even if the catted pipe was in stock I wouldn't get it because I can get the cats I have put on for like 80 euros vs paying an extra $600 for the JBA catted stainless... yeah...
If that's the case, I recommend installing a two-step to achieve the maximum possible summertime booby count.
Screw all of that other stuff! 😂
We're starting to tighten restrictions again here in CA. Covid cases are increasing at a pretty good rate.
Glad they seem to have it under control in your neck of the woods.
As far as Covid, we got a new mask mandate, basically have to wear everywhere in public unless you are eating or exercising. Cases are spiking a bit and they are trying to keep ahead of it without having to go back into a shutdown.
As for the headers... did some talking to ppl who have had them and they all were basically like either stick with the stock manifolds or go full longtubes. I did find a set of NIB Jet Hotted (armorcoat) Pacesetters I might buy and sell these uncoated ones locally to a guy with a Mach1. I got them for free and I'd rather have a real ceramic coat than me trying to blast off all the paint and screw with re-painting.
I'll probably go back and forth 10 times before I make a choice and then instantly regret it... ah well.
If anyone alive is still on this forum the car has been down for a bit because of an unexpected move. Landlord wound up being a COMPLETE jackass but it worked out as housing sided with us and almost blacklisted him (he's probably going to lose his ass on the house now) and we wound up in a better house. 6 bed, 2.5 bath, 3 car garage, full size pool and a lot of "yard" even tho its all tile.
The downside... if you can call it that is the driveway is very steep going down to the basement garage, I got the car in there but it scraped real good going in and if I want the longtubes or to do a full suspension on it that is no bueno... unless.... yep... I gotta go air suspension. Its actually a good thing anyway as I will no longer have to worry about having to scout out roads and routes with my daily before I take the stang due to speed bumps or some of these towns around here have crazy medieval sized roads because... well they've been the same road for 800 years...
$1500 for Ridetech "coilovers" up front, $500 out back for bags for the IRS with my Tokico adjustable shocks and then $2k for the compressor setup... ouch... but... I can make back probably $1k selling my traditioinal suspension stuff I have and tbth that's actually not bad for a real good suspension setup... After that its a Saleen kit and paint but that'll be next year.
Biden stimulus and tax returns will pay for this and then some. Plus whatever my daughter's "allotment" is for the relief bill is going into a mutual fund my parents set up for her.
Also I forget if I ever posted I did manage to re-buy 4V Novi 2000 brackets. Waiting for Jon Bond to get a good rebuilt modular Novi 2000 in stock and then... my bank account will hurt a little... If I could totally plan out the next 20-30 years it would be to retire here in 2025 and start a 2nd "career" with the Dept of the Navy as a civilian. Maybe airfield management or even just a random GS job here... This is consistently rated one of the top 10 places in the world to retire and I'm already here. Cheap to live, all the benefits of the EU, weather is great, right on one of the most desirable beaches in Europe and I'll have the income...
As for the Mustang... I plan to keep this car forever. I know a lot of ppl say that... I've said it about my 95 Cobra and even the 98 but... not gonna get another one of these here without paying out of my ass and it won't be nearly as nice or with 40k miles. I'm TRYING by this time next year to be in paint after doing full suspension/exhaust/retune and a Saleen kit.
