Performance or Appearance?

Probably the biggest question that circles around my head when thinking about what I want for my Mustang. What should I go more of?

Performance I feel would cost more money and would take more time. I'd like to put in headers(contemplating long or short still) and a tune since I have and exhaust, Throttle body and an cold air intake. I was told board out heads too but that alone I found out is a solid 1,500$ upgrade.

Appearance I think would cost way less and would take less time. I was thinking painting some of my interior black and getting some carbon fiber. As well as LED's, black 18" Saleens, sequential taillights, possible engine painting, colored gauges and maybe some side scopes. I'm kinda going for a Silver/Black look.

I have a minimum wage part time job, so I don't make a lot of money every week (probably around 175$). With that I'm planning on upgrading in a few years to a 2007-2013 GT so I don't want to throw a lot of money into the car.

Basically, what is everyones opinions on the best performance and appearance mods and in my case, what is the better path to take?

Everyone is different honestly i chose appearance first. She looks and sounds the part for sure. Now I'm focusing on backing up its bark if that made any help.in your decision.

Some guys do performance mods first making it look like a sleeper and then proceed to damage someone's self confidence Yaknow

you basically answered your own question.. If you are going to get an s197 soon just do appearance mods . Is this your DD? Also if you do plan on doing performance mods don't waste your money on shorty headers.

With that level of income it going to be very hard to do anything. I'd suggest investing in Amsoil fluids (oil, transmission fluid, gear fluid) to try and make it last as long as you can so it will be around for upgrades in the future. Those fluids also last a lot longer than others so while more expensive at first you end up needing to change them less often and saving money. I'd also concentrate your efforts on the rear suspension because its notoriously bad.

Deciding between performance and appearance is really going to be a personal choice. You need to decide which is going to more enrich your experience with your car and no one here is really going to be able to answer that for you. I'll tell you this though, you've done the cheap stuff. The only other other cheap thing performance wise would be J-mod if you have an auto trans. A tune is a kinda cheap mod that does do a lot to how the car will behave.

I personally did a blend of both to mine. Got the car to look how I wanted it. And added a few items that would help it go a little quicker. It's not fast by any means, but I look good, and have fun while driving it.

Lower it with lowering springs, get a staggered set of wheels, Mach 1 grill delete. The new edge mustang's can look really good with these mods. Get the SR lowering springs, under $200 I think, staggered wheels and tires, even looked for a used set on Craigslist.

And a Mach 1 chin spoiler as well. Another cheaper appearance mod

$175 a week? Fresh fluids/maintenance and drive it/enjoy it and save your money. Not going to do much of anything on that budget. Maybe $50 here and there for a few little things... I guess appearance... but doing carbon fiber overlays and glow gauges and LEDs is kinda ricey...

As far as interior paint. You will need to pull the panel/part in question, COMPLETELY strip it with soapy water, then mineral spirits, then soap and water again, let it air dry, hit it with SEM interior prep and then adhesion promoter and FINALLY the correct SEM interior dye for your desired color and then multiple coats of clear on top of that. Might be easier to just go to a junkyard and pull the part you need in the color you want although if you are patient and do it right a dye job will be as good as OEM. I'd personally just clean your interior real well with good cleaners/conditioners (NOT ARMOR ALL) and make it real nice as is. But that's just me.

Depends on if he has any bills or not. I made less than that in high school and was able to do some mods. But I was already keen with my money and investing.

I would try and find a better job for the summer assuming you're in high school or college. Work full time = more mods

Vinyl roof looks pretty good on that. If the paintscratch kit does not turn out how I want it to for some reason on my car I'll be going that route. AM kit?

Likely just a cell phone if even that... Maybe insurance? I dunno with that budget I'd just pocket the money for going out and doing stuff although being under 21 kind of limits what you can do.

I didn't have any expenses in high school thankfully. Parents paid gas and insurance..... But they saw that I was also investing my money so they figured it would be better to let me do that than have to pay bills. Luckily they still help me out with a lot of stuff since I'm investing 70% of my money currently. We both see it as more beneficial to let me invest most of my money than have various payments.

Although in high school when I was able to afford mods it was basic stuff. Tinted headlights, VHT tail lights, plasti dipped wheels, tune, and short shifter

Just do Exhaust and Cold Air Intake. Save up for the new car. Get it out of your Head to do any type of Head work, save money, it's not needed anyway.

This ^^^

You can do little things, but don't spend all your money on the car. Will help a lot more in the long run.

I have this issue on both sides.

Happened on my Cobra too but in a different spot. Not hard to fix honestly, just time consuming.

Yeah it's weird especially since the paint on the rest of the car is perfect. Eh oh well.
