Not wanting to start at first??

Everytime I start my car it idles high for about 5 seconds then drops until it dies. It didn't before but it was seldom and now it's every time I start it. I have 0 idea what it could be, the only thing I thought of was fuel pump maybe?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Little update, was driving home and some tractor was going real slow so I was behind him and some other cars, I was in 3rd, downshifted to second then went. I went to fourth, passed em then went to slow down and realized my car shut off, I wasn't even close to red lining or anything. Never had this happen. Not sure if that has something to do with what has been happening when I start it or what.

Damn, that's what I was hoping I wouldn't have to do. How much did it end up costing?? And how long until it went out??

For me it cost about 150 for the part and labor but I guess that differs on Where you go/ buy it from. it would run for about 30 seconds when idling then die suddenly

I wouldn't trust a bbk pump as far as I could throw it. What year car is this for first thing. Second thing, to actually get a pressure gauge and check your pressure before you just go randomly swapping out parts.

It's an 02 GT, not sure if bolt-ons matter when choosing what lph but I have an off road H-pipe, flow masters exhaust, trick flow throttle body, K&N cold air and long tube headers. I've never looked into fuel pumps so I truly have no idea what to get or what size

You need to get a gauge on the rail and make sure it's actually the pump first. Hell it could be as simple as a clogged fuel filter.

So I don't have the gauge I need, is there any other way to test if it's going bad. Would it throw any codes on my tuner??

Do you have a cheap gas station bicycle tire pressure gauge? If you do it can be done with that.

And not sure if it rules anything out or not, but when I started up to move it it almost died but as long as I gave it a little gas (with the pedal), it didn't die then continued to idle??

Simple stuff first. Change your fuel filter. If its original, it may be very clogged and its routine maintenance you should be doing anyway.

Hmm. Look at your vacuum lines going to the plenum. Also clean your MAF. It sounds like it's getting fuel and spark. Check to see if there are any leaks going to the plenum or any in general. I forgot to simply tighten a vacuum line going to my plenum and it would not start and idle for anything.

Ah ok.

You can buy a basic fuel pressure gauge kit anywhere. Screws to the port in the rail and should have a bleeder hose on it too. I've got one I got like 10 years ago for $25 at one of the box stores on the shelf that I use every now and then. Good news for me is the car I just got has a gauge right on the pillar so no having to **** with it this time. Its a good tool for anyone to have though, for any vehicle.
