I guess it's about that time. For those that followed my build on my 03 3.8. I'm starting round 2. This time with a soft top and a V8.
This time around I picked up a 2004 GT convertible. Interior was great and not a dent or ding in the body. Best of all it was very well maintained. Engine runs strong, and smooth as butter. But it can get better. Over the next several months I'm going to turn this into MY mustang.
So far I pulled off the bug deflector and stipes off the hood, scoop and trunk. Installed the Mach 1 grille delete kit and Mach 1 chin spoiler. New headlights should be here in the next day or two. Next step will be the O/R mac prochamber, and SLP Loudmouth exhaust. From there I'll get into the good stuff. Suspension and power!

Ok found a dirt cheap 1999 Mustang 3.8 automatic with 101k and in Crystal White. Best price ever....free! My brother in law is giving it to us. It has the best trunk lid ever, spoiler less. I started thinking about swapping trunk lids and I got excited. It's a shame the two whites are different. So instead of getting my holes in the trunk filled again and then having it painted, I'll swap lids and have the both painted to match their respective cars.
I plan on converting my current build to a His and Hers build. They will be identical cars, but mine will have the procharged V8 drive train and my wife's will be a procharged V6. Also hers will get a 17x9 all the way around, and I'm going with 18x9 up front and 18x10 in the rear. Going to do the same style wheels on both, but may do different finishes
Should be a lot of fun at car shows, and sometimes Carolina Dragway. I'm actually getting ready to take my GT out there to get my baseline numbers before I start tearing everything apart and building it. I'll do the same with the six. Oh, the six will get the 3.73's and the GT will get 4.10's. Going FI will be the very last step on both cars, so gears will likely be changed again just before we slap on some boost.
All in all, we are excited about building both cars. I'm not so excited that the cost just doubled. I still hope to keep both cars under 30k. Might not after getting both cars repainted...
I'll get some pictures up in the next couple weeks.
The New Edge Mustangs are hands down my favorite body style to date. When done up like my last one there are really a sight to behold. They look so angry, yet at the same time elegant. I'll always have a New Edge in my stable, if not only New Edges.
You have to watch the high stall speed on the converter if its your dd. I only say that because with higher stall speed it will be like coming off the line at a drag race every time you pull out, unless you don't mind that.
Also Ford made two converters for the Mustang 96 through 04 an 11" and a 12" if your staying stock you would want the 11" but it don't sound like your staying stock on anything.
I'll have to get the stall speeds figured out. They will be both daily driven, and occasionally taken to the strip. I need to make sure my wife will drive hers.
3 in a row yesterday at the hospital. The red 99-01 3.8 was a real piece of work. Knockoff chrome Bullitts that looked like they would be right at home on a crown vic. It was stupid loud. It really sounded like it was running open headers. Most unpleasant sound I've heard in a while, just barely beating out a straight piped civic...

So at this point I'm really torn on wheels. I'm still not sure if I'm going to do the same style wheels on both mustangs. I have decided that mine will get 18x9 up front and 18x10 out back. My wife's will get 17x9 all the way around.
I thought I had settled for the chrome FR500's. Buuuut now I am also looking at the chrome Cobras. I really like the 500's, but I feel like there is a little much going on with those. I'm going to have to look at a bunch of them and pull the trigger on one of them. My wife is no help because she likes both of them.
We are picking up her Mustang Thursday. I'm eager to look it over and see how much it's going to add to our build cost. Her brother is giving to us because they bought a truck and a jeep. He is the only owner and it has had regular maintenance performed. He said there are some spots where the paint has faded, not such a big deal since we are going to have both stangs painted. That's another subject. Car color. I like the white, but one is Oxford and the other is Crystal White. If I stay white they will both be painted the Crystal White. Bright Atlantic blue is another option. So many choices....
Here are some colors I'm looking at. What do you guys think? I like the blues, but don't think it will match the tan interior. I really like the orange.

Ok picked up my wife's Mustang today. Mechanically it's great. That's about it. My build costs just keep going up. It'll need bumpers and a passenger front fender, and a paint job something fierce.

Started working on the six today. Touching up the bare spots to prevent rust. Going to get it painted for her around November so it doesn't have to be pretty. Got a few coats of the dupli color Perfect match on there. Will do a few more, color sand and then clear it.

How could I forget?! Today my SLP Loudmouth catback and Raxiom Icon taillights shipped out from American Muscle! Will get some pictures up in a few days when they come in. Now I'm sitting here trying to figure out which I'm doing next. Koni struts and shocks, or the SCT tuner. I'll likely end up ordering the tuner today, and ordering the shocks, springs, steeda ball joints, and CC plates next week.

Well got some stuff from American Muscle today. My icons came in and the SLP catback, or at least some of it. Very disappointed that most of the catback was missing...
On the phone with AM. Trying to work out something to pay for the pieces I have, and paying my shop to weld in that stuff.

I'm upset. So much so that I'm gonna eat the cost. I'm having my shop weld everything up as I type this. I don't want to wait another week to get it on. I'm trying to keep everything on schedule.

500 bucks for the catback, and 250 to get it all welded in and the missing sections added. Cost a little extra because I wanted it done on the spot. I will hear this exhaust today damnit!
