96 mustang gt 4.6 died

Hello everyone,
I need some serious help immediately please. I have a 96 Mustang GT 4.6, and it stalled on the freeway while driving 70 mph, and almost got hit by a semi. I had this happen last week, and took it to a mechanic, but think I got ripped off. I paid them $556. It cranks over, but won't start, and when you put the key in the first position, there are no dashboard lights like the brake light, air bag or check engine light. The mechanic had my car or 3 days until they finally replaced the ignition switch, relay module, and key lock. They said it was good to go, but it died in traffic today as stated above. I replaced the battery thinking that was the problem, but I'm driving across country in a few days, and need to get this fixed right away. The fuel pump was replaced a few years ago so don't think that could be the problem. I can't seem to find anyone who knows how to fix this problem. If anyone has had this happen to them please contact me please. I'm desperate, and don't want to break down out in the middle of nowhere. Send reply to iowadude41@yahoo.com

Go to an auto parts store and have them scan your car for any trouble codes. Even though your Check Engine Light is not on, there still may be a pending code.
Without any direction to look, this type of problem can be very difficult to diagnose.

Yeah get the codes checked. So it cranks but wont start? Not at all? Have you checked the alternator or have had it tested yet? I assume the shop would have done this? Im not sure just a stab in the dark.

Lol.
It's the heat for me... Any remaining brain cells that I had are now toast!

This is assuming that your mechanic didn't already check these things. But yeah, check the charging system while you are getting the car scanned for codes, OP.
A weak alternator/battery can cause all sorts strange things.

possible pats issue, but i think that would cause it to start up and then stop, rather than not start at all.

The alt. Can cause more than just battery issues , it can cause your camshaft position sensor to act up , and your crankshaft sensor..
This will lead to no start , car dieing out , and hard to start.
It's free to have it checked out at any ford dealer or auto parts store.

^yup

And try to get it fixed asap because bad alternators can kill battery's pretty quick. You want a well charged battery when you go to replace your alternator.

would the car turn over but not start? u stated no lights on dash panel at first detent of key on, headlights working then? if u had everything except dash warning lights working u have a ignition switch out of adjustment...if battery was dead then most likely alternator ooc.if car isn't running now any good tect can fix it....as far as the free check out at a ford dealer, forget that, not happening..if intermitted good luck, just dont let someone shotgun it by guessing and throwing parts at it..sounds like what last guy did, as well as overcharing you big time
