Want to supercharge my 2000 gt

I have a 2000 get with 146,000. I have small mods done to the car, CAI, 3.73 gears, magmaflow exhaust. Anyways I come to the forum for help. I'm looking to go with a 9psi supercharger w/inter cooler. My question is what all should I do to my car to get it ready for the supercharger. I don't feel like blowing the car up, just looking for something to have a little more fun in without buying a new car

Do a compression test, as long as all 8 cylinders are close then you should be good. I have an 03 gt with 140k with the KenneBell 2.1 kit 9lbs of boost. I had it "safe tuned" by STPerformance in California (I live in AR). I am going to Dynospeed in Memphis in 2 weeks to get it dyno tuned for about 400rwhp. You will have to upgrade your clutch and flywheel as well. Even with the safe tune I have my stock clutch wouldn't hold.

If you want the easiest PnP intercooled kit for a street car get the KB 2.1 full kit. Even comes with a basic KB tune to get you buy until you get a real dyno tune.

As far as getting it ready... well if your suspension is stock or near stock you'll never be able to use all that power so suspension for sure. Clutch/flywheel and a full compression/leakdown test is a good start as far as the driveline. Obviously exhaust.

So I don't need new heads, or anything major like that to do a supercharger? I'm looking at cost because the kb supercharger itself is 5000. So I don't want to dump all that into my car when I can buy a newer gt

You are going to be spending about that no matter what kit you get. The perk to the KB kit is that you get instant torque from 2k-6k its a flat plane on the dyno. Its all about what you are looking for. Having a fast car is not cheap.

Compression Test and leak down test... If it pans out well then get a quality kit. If you get a cheap kit or a cheap tune it can destroy the engine.

Then buy a newer GT. That's what it costs to supercharge and that's just the kit. Like I said you're going to need to upgrade the suspension and do some driveline mods to make it reliable. And tack on another $600 or so for a real tune.

You don't but the stock internals will limit you to a safe 400-425hp. I'd recommend running e85 if it is available by you. If you want more power than that then you're going to need a built motor.

I don't want to push it I think the supercharger will be plenty for me a fun daily driver, not a drag car

Honestly if u got 5k for the kit and 1k+ for the install and supporting parts and you are just wanting a 400hp daily driver and not interested in going further. Sell ur stang take the money from it + the 6k u were going to spend and put it ALL down on a used coyote powered mustang and u will have an ultra refined 426hp beast with a warranty with a loan for around 10k. Ur payments should be under 300.

Anywhere that sells used cars? Check out local dealers, autotrader and the classifieds on this and other forums.

Most 2011 and 2012 Coyote Mustangs with 20-40k miles and really well maintained are in the $20-$24k range depending. I just saw one for sale in Florida like that. 2011 white with black cloth interior stick shift base model V8 with 20k miles for $20k.

Any 2012 gt. You can get lower mileage ones like 50k for as little as 16,000 but usually in the 18-20 range

2011-2014 were the Coyote Mustangs. A 2012 would be preferable just so you could make sure you got one that didn't have clutch issues but you can always check the build date on a 2011, most of them are fine.

Lol I was actually in England in 1996... I have to get an extra screening every time I donate blood now some 20 years later. I think I'd have had symptoms although it might explain a few things...
