stock vs modded what to buy

What is your opinion on buying someones already modded GT
vs a stock GT

found another GT has 4.10 gears in a manual
mac cat back exhaust
spec stage 2 clutch
jlt cold air intake
edelbrock intake manifold
lowering springs ( unknown make )

he wants 6500 I offered 5k and he said he would accept it as is. said there is a rattle coming from the rear end somewhere. maybe a exhaust hanger?
has small chip in windshield a rock chip on the roof and a couple scratches that would probably buff out.

exhaust looks like it doesn't fit correctly

I would want to change a lot on the car, is it better to start with a stock car or should I just enjoy the mods someone else has done and replace them over time.

or just spend a couple more grand and get a car that hasn't been touched.

I'd want receipts or I'd walk away. Which I'd pick stock. That way you have a unmolested car to start with.

why do you want receipts? it would be nice if I cared about the parts but realistically I would want a different exhaust and not 4.10's so eventually they would be replaced anyways.

This right here tells me that you'd be better off finding something else. That exhaust looks like crap and honestly if he can't figure out to hang an exhaust properly then how can you trust him to properly maintain the rest of the vehicle?

^ hence why I said receipts. Professionally installed increases chances of proper installation. Doesn't guarantee, but it increases.

If you are going to change the parts anyway just get stock.

That car I would not exactly consider a headache if that is ALL that is done. Problem is you might not know what else lurks until you get the car home and really have time with it...

You can buy modded but you have to be smart. If the condition is good and he'll take $5k it might be a good buy if you are going to replace the exhaust anyway. The Edelbrock intake and the JLT are $$$ pieces although the stock fuel rails means they were modded/rigged into place and that exhaust... No idea why the pipes are hanging so low.

Also the fact that he came down $1500 on the price like that is indicative there might be an issue. I would probably keep looking for a better deal if it was me.

Usually modded cars have been beaten on.
I'd buy something as close to stock as possible.
