Advice on Re-ring

A little background first..... 2002 GT 5spd with 172k on it. Low compression #5 cylinder (65psi), so I took cylinder heads in for valve job. Several exhaust valves were kinda beat up, and they replaced the rocker arm in #5. Upon removing the heads, the cylinder walls appear in decent shape, still see the cross-hatching....but I figure since I'm in - might as well do rings. The engine is still in...so dropping the oil pan to remove through the bottom is what I'm thinking. Do I just get a 3 stone honing tool & stock rings. This is all new to me, and a mechanic friend is helping me.... just want advice from fellow stang lovers. Thanks

It will be 10 times easier if you just remove the engine from the vehicle and do the re-ring on an engine stand.

Or just buy a replacement motor with low miles. I paid $575 for a 38k original mile PI motor out of a Crown Vic delivered to my house.

Found it on www.car-part.com. It's a JY database. JY that had it was 20 min away. Got to see it while it was still in the car and everything.
