gt running lean

Hey I am new to the form. Ok I have a 2000 Mustang GT supercharger/intercooled just install a Kenne Bell boost a pump now my fuel pressure gauge peg at 100% and my car I running lean. Help.

Sounds like you may need more fuel. I'm a noob on this but what size injectors do you have?

I am thinking that my BAP has my fuel pressure to hi, my fuel pressure gauge read 100% and do not move til I turn the car off

If 100% is 100 psi, that's way too much!
I would think that the engine would be running extremely RICH!

Did this problem start when you installed the boost-a-pump?

Yes and you are right it should be rich but the fuel pressure may have some thing to do with that too my air not Anough gas

Do you have a wideband? Fuel pressure isn't always a tell tale sign but is a good clue to what's going on. But the wide band won't lie on what's really going on. Until you know for sure stay out of boost and get it to a tuner if you feel it's lean.

I would double check everything and make sure that the pump is installed correctly.
If it does seem to be installed correctly, maybe remove it and see if the problem goes away. It could be faulty, or like you suspect, maybe the BAP is at fault.

I would contact a local tuner and ask if they recommend a new tune for the BAP. When the PCM sees too much fuel pressure it will throw a lean code. I am fairly certain you're gonna need to retune for the BAP.

What fuel pump is currently installed and why did you install the BAP?

Ok now that I got my bap re-wired now I have low fuel pressure and the bap is putting out 17volts +need help

Okay you are attaining maximum fuel pressure, right? That means your pump is flowing PLENTY of juice.


Any lean readings you see on the wideband would be a result of your injectors not injecting enough fuel.


Your injectors are not flowing enough fuel. Could be a tune problem, could be maxed out injectors.


If your fuel pump was inadequate, then your pressure would actually drop. As in: Not enough fuel in the rail to build pressure, because it is all getting dumped into the engine and not replenished by the fuel pump fast enough.


Getting 100% of potential fuel pressure, but still showing lean AFRs on the wideband means that your pump is the only thing that you KNOW is working fine.




Edit: You have low fuel pressure now? Under what conditions do you have low fuel pressure? The boost-a-pump is only supposed to run the pump at higher voltage when the car is under boost or WOT. Do you have low fuel pressure at all times? Cuz that might just be a bad fuel pump. Maybe it got fried from before when it was pegged at 100% lol. PS, does 100% mean that the boost-a-pump was running at 100%? Because that would mean you were running your 12V fuel pump at like 20+ volts. Not good to do for an extended period of time

You aren't boosting without a wideband, are you?


If you're not using a wideband to see if you're car is lean/rich, I have no idea what your car is actually doing.. We need objective data and a complete knowledge of background information to even begin problem solving here.


Answer these questions and we can figure it out (or get close)


1- How many PSI do you have at idle, cruise, load, and WOT?
2- What is your exact AFR at idle, cruise, load, and WOT?
3- What is every single wire on your boost-a-pump connected to?
4- What WAS every single wire connected to before you 'fixed' it?
5- How much boost are you running?

I have data logs I could send if that would help. but idle is fine driving around town is fine when I get into it leans out

oh and it start rough and it stalls sometimes but when I get it started it idles fine.

I have the wire upgrade with the boost a pump installed from the fpdm i cut the pink wire with black stripe from the bap red wire without fuse to fpdm harness fused red wire to pin 87 on relay pin 85 ground pin86 to pink wire with black stripe and pin 30 40 amp fused wire 10 ga from battery

Your playing with fire. Literally. Get it to a tune shop and have them diagnose and fix asap. Do not go wot until you do unless you enjoy anguish.

When is the BAP putting out 17 volts? It should only be doing that under heavy load/boost. Electric motors (like the one in your fuel pump) are designed to run at 70% of their maximum performance capacity at all times, reliably. So running at 17 volts probably means its making 100% of its potential power. If you do that too much, you kinda over-heat the electric motor and kill it.

Id really like to see a data log of your fuel pressure during a throttle sweep, boost levels, and air:fuel readings. I also wanna see what your fuel pressure is doing on start-up and when it dies.
