Finally getting to the cam install

I've had my comp 270 cams since February and I'm finally fed up with staring at them in the box...

I have the cams, all new gaskets, seals and installation hardware. Comp beehive springs and retainers as well as adjustable crank gears for the timing..

My question is this. I'm running 19lb injectors. I have a set of new 47lb for future boost plans but will I be maxing out my 19lb injectors with the cams and my other mods?

Anything I need to know for the install to make sure the mechanic knows?

Also I've got a new SCT x4 and have a MPT tune on the way to me.. Once I get them installed I'm gonna have MPT make me another one for the cams and possibly the injectors if I need to..

Yea you should install those injectors. Maybe not that much LB per hour but it will max out those 19lbrs

MPT said they could just adjust it for the 47lb injectors but By maxed out do you think that means not drivable lol unless the 47lb and tune is on it?

Yea 19lb will be maxed out and won't be able to supply enough fuel. If MPT will tune for the bigger injectors might as well put those in.

I had 19lb injectors and I did a stage two ported head and stage 3 comp cam and my injectors weren't maxed out, and I got a dyno tune.

Finally getting to the cam install

19lb is just about maxed out stock. I don't see how they could be used with cams. 47 will be overkill for now but will work as long as the tune accounts for them. You can use them later on for the boost. 42 is about good for 425-450whp so 47 is enough unless you build it.

Talk to MPT make sure the 47s are good but don't run the 19s, they're at 90% duty cycle on a stock application and there is a reason Ford went to the 21s in 2002.

You have 21s if you haven't changed them. I was under the assumption you had 19s because you said you did. 21s will be near maxed out too.

Yes you have 21s. They might be ok with cams. Might.

Got quoted 600-700 for the cam install with the valve sprigs and all, and degreeing them of course.. Sound accurate?

Very reputable performance shop near me

I'm not unless they think I need it.. I'm still just below 100k so mine should be okay..

If not I can replace them another time on my own

I here you... I'm at 90k and figured they have to be removed anyway why not replace them... Either way it's a decent price... I decided to go boosted that's the only reason I didn't go cammed... Yet lol

Your car is going to sound amazing with the new cams. That install price sounds good for the labor. I was quoted $600 for labor and degreeing, spring install, etc. And was a very good performance shop as well. Total was close to $1k with the cams, and new springs, etc. It was a huge quote tho so I dont know if they were giving me a break since it was for heads (PI machined and installed, PI intake and install, cams of course, injectors, and a tune).

I'm hoping it sounds good..

I'm freaking my self out tho..

The shop is going to make sure they are degreed and I got adjustable gears for the timing.. And MPT is emailing me a tune for the cams and all my other mods.

Idk why I'm worried but I hope the tune and the degreeing the shop does blend.. Idk if either one affects the other but it's making me think

They do effect each other but only negative if the shop does not degree them properly, what cams did u get? Cuz ive seen alot of cams have ptv issues when degreed properly to the cam spec but usually only stage 2s or bigger have problems and that also depends on the manufacture also, ive also seen stage 2s ( same cams) work fine in other cars and not work in some... Weird how it all works out when its suppose to be the same motor lol... But that shows u that u should either dyno tune or email tune that was datalog'd because no 2 cars are the same even with same mods

Tunes that don't require data logging which most won't are $70. Updates of those are $20. Cam tunes and supercharger tunes are extra.

Yep 270s often have to be installed retarded because they are too close on stock heads.

I'm sure the shop that's doing them knows what to do, he's a comp dealer and he's a big drag racing guy but when I drop it off Wednesday I'll double check

That makes me wonder. I have stage 2 cams and With the stock 19lbs. At times my car will lean out when wot and the idle acts up a lot. Could that be the injectors?
