New engine?

So my cold air sucked up a good amount of water I guess and my car stalled. My insurance might call it a total loss says my mechanic that's looking at a 1,8xxx dollar engine. I do have full coverage. Any suggestions? I really miss my car.

New engine?

Take your car back from that mechanic. Go get a low mileage crown Vic motor from 04-05 and swap it out yourself. $700 fix if you can do it all yourself.

What CAI do you have and how did you manage to suck up enough water to do that? Seems like you'd either have to be in a giant puddle or full throttle though one.

My car has done this before, not a total loss but the car did stale out after hesitating and sputtering for a quartermile.. I hit two huge water spots in the road(would have avoided them but another car was coming and I was on a back road) anyways my CAI is fender mounted as I'm sure yours is too.. and that's easy access for puddles of water to get up in there, especially if your going at a good rate of speed.. I was already pulling into work when it died, I tried starting it back but it wouldn't turn over, next break I had it fired right up. Next day I went and replaced the filter and it was as good as new.. You must have got a TON of water in there for it to be a total loss that sucks man.. Even with full coverage they aren't writing you a check for your loss??

Well I cleared the huge puddle but as soon as I got out it just died, I'll turn the key and I'll just hear the starter. What if I just drain the engine?

You can try that. But if water made its way to the cylinders you could have bent valves and other things. Never hurts to try. Take out all the spark plugs and pull the reset fuse for the fuel pump by the tail light and turn it over and see if anything comes out. Obviously don't do it without oil.
