Got my Ford Racing gears installed today.

Upgraded to 4.10 from the stock 3.27. Talk about a kick in the butt upgrade! Shifting more doesn't bother me and having passing power and not having to down shift is a nice feeling. Already put 150 "easy" miles on the car. Gears a just a little louder than stock and I'm sure with break in they will quite down. Used the motive gear install kit and royal purple oil. Got the whole kit from American muscle for $231 (including dealer discount). Had my boss install them. Backlash and gear mesh was perfect. Recalibration of the speedo was done with my sct runner. Turns 2500rpm @ 75mph.

Ford Racing break in detections could be better written. Seems too simple.

When i got my ford racing 410s installed the shop that did them told me not to worry about breaking them in, just drive it like i always do. This is a ring and pinion shop only, been in business for 40 yrs.

Got my Ford Racing gears installed today.

When I installed my gears with my buddy who races mustangs and builds them for a living, we took it out and immediately put it through its paces. Lol. He says with my power level you'll never hurt them. Hell he has a twin turbo fox body and immediately took his to the strip after his gear change. No break in just high rpm launches on slicks with 1100 hp.

I took mine out just a little bit ago and ran it hard. Love how it stays in the power band and just pulls hard. 0-100 sprints are much quicker now.

never saw gears get quiter just louder, only thing to cause gear noise is bad install or badly cut gears.this is only my openion and in 40 yrs experience has been right..you replace all bearings?this could be whar you are hearing

I was doing a little more research about gear set "whine" and I found this thread that's a couple years old.

gears whining

My gears are quite during acceleration, and while under load. But as soon as I let off the gas I get the "whine" while coasting. Some people say it will get better, go away with time. I'm sure that is the case, or at least hope. We double checked everything while doing the install. Had my boss (25 year Ford tech, has done a couple gear sets including upgrades on his old Fox body) do the install. He said he's heard of whining gears, and also assured me that it will get better. If not he would help me make it right.

Another thing that I read that Motive gear has been making Gears for Ford for the last couple of years? Can anyone confirm this? According to the Ford Racing catalog their gears are made in their sterling axle plant. But the M in the part number=Motive according to some reports.

My ford racing 410s dont whine at all. It sounds just like it did with the stock gears. I dont remember any noise at all after the install. I was told by the shop who did them prior to me buying the kit to only buy Ford racing.

Double checked my part numbers this morning. The gear set is an actual ford racing gear set. Not made by motive. Driving in this morning the whine was quieter. Maybe it will calm down here in the next couple hundred miles.

nobody reads the box. lol. but yea, everything that isnt standard has "off road use only" written on it. everyone still uses em. as for break in instructions, Ive always heard the ford racing gears have no break in, but the off brand ones do, and still arent a great fit anyway.

Gears and rebuilt limited slip. Makes for good burnouts. And they are getting quieter.

this is what you get when set up correctly
no gear noise means that they were set up right to start with.whine doesn't get better you get used to it.

if the back lash was right the gears would not whine.you need someone to set correct, if you keep driving you will set up a wear pattern and never get them quieted down. whine doesn't go away, you just get used to it. will be rough telling your boss he screwed up,maybe better to take to someone that can set them right. call several people get referals but don't drive whining gears, you will ruin them! what was backlash set at and was contact pattern in center of both gears?did he have correct tool to set penion depth?

Car now has 500 miles on it since the gear change last weekend. The whine is completely gone. Going to pick up some fresh gear oil this weekend and change it out. Still getting use to how crazy fast it pulls. Bama emailed me the new tunes and I got the race tune back in the car. On my way home leaving town I blew by a Toyota Prius (pretty sure I scared them because they dived for the shoulder). Also had a grandma in a newer Cadillac CTS-V give me the thumbs up on the hwy. I dropped it into 4th and matted it. She walked away from me fairly easy. Lol

Glad to hear no more whine! And I agree the gears do make a significant difference. That with a tune (which I did too) makes one want to flog the car a lot more!

Had an ohio trooper in one of their pursuit corvettes walk me 65-100 the other day. They had just gotten it from an asset forfeiture. Not street racing btw both leaving a veteran event was brief 5 sec exchange on an empty interstate. Damn giggling basterd
