Water leak ?

Last night in the process of painting the hood I was just curious popped off the resivor cap and there was nothing there so I filled it up with water and waited a second so see if I could visually see a leak but I've noticed it only does it when running ?

Also a friend mentioned while he was behind me when I shifted from 3-4 there was a cloud that came out the exhaust pipe.

Any suggestions are appreciated

Sounds like possible head gasket issue, and I believe u should never use straight water, always use diluted pure or prediluted antifreeze. A compression test should let you know how your gaskets are doing

I would check the back of your intake manifold. There is a nipple that comes off the intake manifold made of plastic that goes into the heater core. Those break with age and is a common problem. Would also only leak when running.
