Had to push mustang to start

Hey guys, my mustang is not starting. I had to push it down a hill for it to start running and when I drove it back up the hill and stopped at my buddy's house it cut right back off. It's been driving fine lately. I stopped at my buddy's house for 5 mins jumped back in the car and it would not start. Then we figured we try to push it than dump the clutch and then it started but everytime I stop it cuts off. Anyone know wat this problem could possibly be.

Put it on a 2 amp trickle charger while you're gone. Disconnect car's cables from the battery so it stops draining!

Take the battery in to a auto parts store to have them test it if you can get the car there they can check the alternator also. Check the cables for corrosion. I had a issue with my 2000 GT that was similar and the cables were not making a good connection at the terminals, cut the old terminals off cleaned the cables real good and put the new terminals on and it fixed the issue.

Good info there.

That happens with a weak/bad battery. What happens is voltage drops off severely when the starter tries to draw a large chunk of the current. I bet you battery is just under 12 volts when undisturbed, but it drops to 5 or 6 when the starter tries to engage. So your car can run almost like normal once it is up and going, because that doesn't demand as much from the battery, plus its getting juice from the alt (hopefully) when things are moving

This could be as well. Could be a weak alternator causing the battery to be weak as well. Or the thing dies once it kicks on the fan while sitting still. Im not sure how many amps these things can charge when they are at idle, but that fan takes power to run it, and that has to come from somehwere!. Does anybody on here know how many amps these charge at idle? It would be good to know that right about now

Check your grounds. the one on the battery, as well as the ones bolted to the chassis in front of it. if they are corroded and have a bad connection, you will see a loss in voltage, as well as damage to the battery from bad charging.
test your alternator and battery at an autoparts store. odds are, the battery is lost. if your lucky, the alternator is just fine. (assuming the grounds were bad, and the bad battery didnt hurt the alternator)
make sure whatever battery goes back in there is fully charged. you dont want to charge a low battery with an alternator. its bad for both.
