What oil to use with supercharger

I just got my car with 118k on it. It has a vortech V2 in it. I do t know what oil the previous owner used. What would be your best recommendation for oil to use with the supercharger.

My worry is that the previous owner went with synthetic. I've heard it's not a good idea to go with a non-synthetic once a synthetic is used.

I also want to be sure I'm using the best oil possible for my supercharger.

We are having a similar discussion in the Rear Main Seal thread about synthetic vs conventional oil.
The part about not being able to return to conventional oil after using synthetic is a myth.
Synthetic is probably the best choice for extreme duty purposes but there are also synthetic "blends" that that would also work well.

I wonder if Vortech has a particular oil that they recommend for use with their supercharger?

+1 on the synthetic to conventional myth. you can switch back and forth all you want.
dont quote me on this, but i think most people are using synthetic 5w40 or so for the supercharged engines. im pretty sure you want something nice and thick, but you still need to take care of your cold starts (the 5w part). as far as i know, there are no conventional 5w40's. you would have to go 10w40. I think the stock supercharged stangs (cobra and gt500 and such) can handle 5w50. otherwise i think some people use 5w40 rotella, which is technically a diesel oil. but still good stuff for a mustang.

as for synthetic blends, my understanding is that you really dont benefit from them. i only use it because i like motorcraft oil and it happens to be a synth blend. otherwise i would be using a synthetic. i may switch back to a full synthetic when i either have a better paycheck, or decide that the synth blend isnt clean enough. but so far so good.

Shell Rotella T6 which is a 5w-40. Its good to use with centris because (like turbos) they beat the **** out of oil and the Rotella is specifically designed with that sort of application in mind.
