2000 GT help!!!!!

bought the car 125,xxx miles bout a month ago, been sitting some. I changed fuel filter a couple times and checked fuel pressure(40 psi) just to make sure all that was in good shape. it ran great for a couple weeks then recently i drive 40 miles one way to work and about half thru the drive it starts cutting out and gets a miss. i can let the car sit for an hour or so and its like it never happened. Ive changed the pcv hose and mass air sensor, no change. other than that im not sure where to start. All i know is carbureted engines, any help would be greatly appreciated

You should begin the diagnosis by scanning for any trouble codes. There may be some stored in the PCM even though the CEL is not lit.
If there are no codes present, you should do a fuel pressure test while the car is having the driveability problem, if you can replicate the conditions in which it occurs.

It's more than likely a coil shorting out. Very common on these cars. If your getting 40psi on you fuel pressure it's not fuel related. Does the miss get worse when the motor is under stress like when trying to speed up or taking off hard. If so it's a spark issue which more than likely is one of the coils.

It could also be an ignition problem but the coils are more likely to trigger a CEL than an intermittent fuel delivery problem, such as a weak fuel pump.
The car has 125k miles on it, so it could be either ignition or fuel.

Try to check fuel pressure when it's acting up with a scan tool and a manual pressure gauge. Mine was acting similar to your and the FRP sensor on the fuel rail was crapping out on me.
