Car shuts down by its self

What can be the problem if my stang shuts down by its self. Can it be bad spark plugs? I bought a new battery at the beginning of the year.

I hate it when they do that!

We are going to need more information.
When does this typically occur?
Does the engine seem to run alright otherwise?
Check Engine Light on?

Go to an auto parts store and have them scan for any trouble codes. Also, have them test the charging system.
Post any codes that they find and we will try to help you diagnose your stalling problem.

I had the same problem on a Grand Prix. At times When I accelerated, the car would shut down.

Eventually I ran it down to a loose wire in a bundle of wires that would 'swing' backwards when I accelerated.

It was really hard to figure out which wire was shorting out. I never had trouble codes, also.

Turns out it's P0455 Leak or Blockage Detected in Evaporative Emission Control System.

Depending on whether it is a leak or blockage, that P0455 evap code may be the cause of your stalling problem.
The most common causes of that code are:
1. Loose or defective (leaking) gas cap.
2. A leak elsewhere in the system. Such as, the fuel tank grommet, rusted filler neck, loose or defective purge hoses, etc.
3. A defective (sticking) Purge Valve.

I think that you should focus on finding, and repairing, the cause of that code first. It might be causing a vacuum leak of un-metered air. If the stalling problem persists after that is fixed, we can diagnose it further.
