Geez..............when was the last time you opened the hood?
One of the reasons I traded in our old 2010 F 150 was the dog food in the hood. We'd left a bag out in the garage, and the mice got into it and went up into the hood behind the welded liner and stored about a 1/2 pound of dog food.
Every time I opened the hood, all the dog food would rattle back toward the windshield ---- sounded like a metal on dog food rain stick. There was no way to get that food out of there --- I tried.
When we traded it in, I was grateful that they did not open the hood --- but I'll bet they were surprised when they finally did.

i clicked on this post to say that a buddy of mine in miami once found a ton of acorns on his intake manifold. but i was expecting to see paint damage from squirrels landing on the hood and running across or something lol. i thought this only happened to him.

We had a bird nest in our GMC Envoy engine bay this past spring. We had a big nest near the air box. I couldn't believe that. But, I would have never guessed a squirrel would pick an engine bay to nest in.

In all seriousness, I hear acorns become volatile if roasted. Your new Christmas classic, acorns roasting on a cast iron block....
