Tis the season to think about rims!

Alright, i know how everyone loves to chat about what rims best suit the new edge, so i figure ill ask! Really close to buying rims, but im torn. My budget is 2gs on rims and tires. Im stuck between the matte black rovos durbans and the black xxr521 mesh wheels. I love the offset of the rovos, but i love the rivet options for the xxrs as well as that they are cheaper. If anyone has any other options they are welcome! Looking at 18 inch, staggered fitment with decent negative offset. Also my car is black. Thanks!

Luv them Bullets (and FR500's)!

"Cliche'"? Come on Man!!

'Classic' is a much better term.

Thanks but ill have to pass! Yeah i know they are classics but thats probably why im staying away. Don't want a classic mustang. Wished true forged or ccw was an option for me but so expensive

Buy one wheel and tire at a time. Someone else on here recently did it, it takes patience but you'll be able to get what you want without dropping a huge chunk of change at once.

But the reason im replacing is because a pothole bent one of my stock rims. Plus the rubbers bad. Thats a good budget idea but im gunna need a new set of shoes this spring😅

Just found the esr sr02 rims and the sr04. Anyone have any experience with this brand? I like the 5-spoke design accompanied with deep dish.

I like the rovos in the machined or brushed finish on a black car. Black wheels on black car get washed out looking no definition. I think they have a brushed finish with black out lining the inside spokes (whatever you want to call them?). Ill try to find a pic of what im talking about

I like these on a black new edge. Doesnt wash out like black does with the black tire. Gives a nice contrast.

I was questioning whether you did or if i was thinking about another thread i read earlier today lol. Been a long one. I really like the Durbans, they have grown on me on the new edge, even thought about them for my 96 gt, just a different look from what you typically see but still somewhat timeless with the spoke design at least i think.

American Racing Razors w/ 275/40/18

I choose American Racing razor's for the weight, 24 lbs is good for the Twisty's.

I'm going down to 17s too. Can get better rubber on the car for cheaper. Even tho I am not the biggest fan in the world of the roller skate look you can get with the wrong set of rims. The 03 style Cobras always look a little taller than they really are because the spokes go all the way to the lip so they are nice in that regard.

Ended up getting the MMD Kage wheels in an 18 by 10 and 18 by 9 in front. Wasn't my first choice but i found them on AM for only 102 dollars each. Will probably run these for the foreseeable future, i think i can get used to them ! Click image for larger version

Very nice! I think those will look killer on your black car. The chrome lip helps break up the color. And you can't beat that price either.

They are almost like a hybrid between the Durbans and the 551C's.

Be sure to post pics once you get them on. Decide on rubber yet?

Nice. Actually bought the staggered 18x9/18x10.5 Dark Satin Durbans on Black Friday for my Mach. Going on in the spring.

Be pretty sweet to see how those 551C's look on a Mach. I saw them on sale on AM a while back and probably would've gotten them if I hadn't already gotten the Rovos. Damn good looking wheel for about half the price lol.

What is strange is i wont be the first dsg car to have them in my area, but i think i payed $390 for them which is a hell of allot cheeper than what i was originally going to buy.

Yah, it seems like once American Muscle starts carrying something it becomes mainstream in the mustang community.
And damn, $390 for the whole set, that was about 1.5 Rovos wheels, and 1/10th of a True Forged setup lol.

I was looking at the other mmds cause i wanted rovos, but they just looked to shallow. Wanted a deeper more concave design. I have not decided on tires! Im up in Canada and the dollar being what it is i decided to wait a bit but please any tire suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Looking for 255 and 285 sport tire with 200-320ish tred wear.

Those will look good with the ploished lip to offset the black, the only way to go with a black wheel IMO. All black wheels with the black sidewalls almost get washed away and their isnt a definite line to showcase the nice wheels. I do like those, probably look good on my silver GT.

I also like the wheels that Superdrift went with, those will look great on DSG.

What type of driving will the car see? Street/strip, autocross, weekend cruiser, daily driver? etc.

There are quite a few tire options out there and knowing what your driving style is will help narrow those options. Typically a 285 is a tad narrow on an 18x10, but again some manufacturers run wider/narrower than others.

For example, a 285 Nitto NT555 is more like a 265 in a Toyo or Mickey Thompson ET Street. While a 295 Toyo Proxes R888 has a 295 section width on paper, but really measures out closer to a 315.

I forget if anyone posted a link to these guys yet.

OE Wheels LLC

Same quality as AM/LRS and OE center caps fit.

That said, still probably going to go with AM because I want the black 03 Cobra 17s and these guys don't have them but... the Ford pony/SVT center caps are super nicer than the aftermarket plasticky crap.

Yes they do make some nice reps. I came close to ordering their 18" staggered Saleen setup but the customer service rep said they will not clear the larger brakes on the 99-04 Cobras/Mach 1's. Not sure if that's actually the case but I did not want to take the chance. Just an FYI.

And I agree, the current center caps on the AM wheels suck. Years ago shortly after they changed the company name to American Muscle they offered the Tri-bar center caps with most of the wheels. Must be a different supplier now.

I can't imagine there would be an issue with Cobra brakes on any 18" rims seeing as they clear 17" rims no problem. Unless there is like a metric assload of extra material there or something. I had a bunch of replica rims on my 95 Cobra and 2 different replica sets on my 98GT with the same Cobra brakes and they were fine.

The Steeda has GT diameter brakes tho... although I do want to upgrade.

Also the Accelera tires they package in with their wheel/tire setups are not terrible if your budget is Sumis or something. They are owned by Apollo who owns Vredestein so they are basically budget Vredesteins. Not bad. Not great... but not bad.

I'm honestly kicking around getting one of the 18" setups with those tires just to get this thing back on the road, then get a set of NT05s for the back or something once its tuned. We'll see. The price is right...

I thought the same thing but didn't want to order them, find out they didn't clear and have to deal with returning etc. And at the time I couldn't find any information on other forums about clearance, oh well.

I thought the same thing but didn't want to order them, find out they didn't clear and have to deal with returning etc. And at the time I couldn't find any information on other forums about clearance, oh well.
I know for a fact the 18" Bullitts they sell will clear 13" Cobra/Mach/Bullitt brakes. A guy with a Terminator swapped Bullitt runs the 18x9/18x10 setup from them. So I'd imagine they are the same design as AM/AFS/LRS etc...

I think they have to put that disclaimer because ppl might try to run some Brembos or 07+ GT500 brakes that say that 18s clear just in case they don't. Kind of a CYA thing.

My car will be used for street/strip. Looking for tire suggestions to fit my rims. Also the dailying i will be doing will be mostly highway so tire road noise also plays a bit of a factor. Any recommendations would be appreciated !
