The offset is probably different but they are sick wheels. Your friend will let you slap em on first I would assume...right?

Yeah I mean make sure they don't rub on anything, make sure they clear the struts and sway bar on the inner side of the wheel. Honestly I don't see you having issues. Out of curiosity what's he selling them to you for?

Offset is different. You will need to buy spacers. By the time you get done with spacers and tires you'll be at or more than a nice new setup from AM. Bad deal imo.

Maybe you can get him down to $300 to offset the spacer price? Sell the fact that he knows you, you have the cash and are ready to buy, and best of all he knows hes not meeting up with some psychopath stranger on Craigslist! Jk. I would still price it out with spacers if you like the wheels on your car. But Scotty is right as usual you will need spacers for them to look right, the rears I beleive will be "sunk" in looking. This is what I found out when I was debating on using stock wheels off of a newer Mustang on my 96 GT.

Guess this is why I've never seen this done. I think they would look sweet on a new edge too. You could be a trend setter!

Well if he included the tires which are almost new then I would do it with the spacers but since he's keeping the tires it's just not cost effective

Yeah but at 27" tall for the GT wheels it would need spacers and then have massive rubbing issues up front. Not a good situation regardless.

He can get an AM combo of 17" staggered wheels with Mickey Thompson Street Comps for $1100 and change shipped to my door fully mounted and balanced and everything.

That is a great deal, I was eyeing that the other day. Or he could look for a clearance deal like Mile High JDF did this week. Then hunt down some deals on tires or even find a slightly used set.

There are 4 or 5 sets of wheels on clearance at AM right now, like Steve mentioned that's what I did. Personally I don't think the track pack wheels will look good.

I'm not convinced

I don't have any actual 1st hand experience on this fit question but looking into a bit I would want to try one of those 2012 wheels, with a tire mounted, on the 3003 first.

By saying wheel spacers would be required is indicating that the newer rims have a greater offset.
Looking at the 2003 OE wheels and offsets, they don't appear to be that far off some of the 2012 wheel offsets.
Now I'm not sure but it appears that the 2003 OEM wheels came with the following setups.(Do you currently have one of these tire/wheel setups?)

225/55R16 - 7" wide rim with 47 offset (25.75" dia)
245/45R17 - 8" wide rim with 39 offset (25.68" dia)
255/40R18 - 8.5" wide rim with 33 offset (26.03" dia)

And the best I can determine the 2012 came with wheels with offsets ranging from 39 to 45. Not sure about the track pack wheels.

If the 2012 rims don't have tires mount to allow you to try it, you should look on the inside of the rim to see what the offset is and go from there.
