Mid pipe question

Hey guys, looking for a mid pipe to get a nicer sound for the Gt and maybe a little top end.
My question is can I get an off road pipe (much cheaper) and get only the x pipe portion welded in so I can keep my cats(california)?

Sounds complicated I'm sure you can. But I think you're better off gutting the cats

You won't get more sound out of just putting an "X" vs the "H".
Tone may change but if you are keeping the factory cats in place you won't notice much if any.

I'll have to go to a shop and ask. Dont really want to take of the cats. That's a nasty ticket here

Well it can be done. For the cost of buying a new pipe and hacking it up then paying a shop to do the install you ain't gonna benefit much if anything from it. Maybe just toss that money in the piggy bank for a rainy day....

Agreed. Cost is about the same, lot of extra steps to save what would likely only end up being the cost of a coffee....

I'm looking at buying this, I asked about welding it in due to the previous owner having welded in some flow masters. Gonna have to take it to a shop either way.

They should be able to weld it in no problem. Just go to an exhuast shop. Shouldnt cost too much either, under $150 I would think.

If you want to be really sneaky get one made with dummy cats and keep the stock pipe to swap in for inspection days. The dummy cats with a quieter set of mufflers will pass the eye test if you get pulled over and shouldn't arouse any suspicion for noise.

I'm in California and I'm running a off-road x pipe with pypes violators. It is pretty loud especially if you're opening up the throttle. I've driven next to police officers and haven't had an issue yet

If you have the money you could buy a catted X midpipe. It would be a little bit larger diameter and help flow compared to the stock midpipe.

Catted X with amazing ground clearance, great quality and magnaflow cats is $300 shipped from UPR. Made by a shop in Florida called VRS. Great piece. Have one, would recommend to anyone. High flow cats are not going to rob any power unless you are doing a very specific setup or you are making stupid stupid power.
