Cams, cams, cams...

So after perusing the forums for the last few days I still can't decide which cams to go with. I have a 2003 GT 5spd with 83k miles. It's N/A, and I plan on keeping it that way. The only mods are; an Airraid intake, underdrive pulleys, Accufab 70mm throttle body and plenum, and an SLP exhaust. I've been seeing people mention Cushman and Modular Motorsports? I don't take the car to the track and put around 5k miles on it a year. I really like that "lopey" cam sound, and I would like to get as much power out of them as I can without sacrificing reliability and piston clearance. Also, will I need to purchase adjustable cam gears? So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Cushman Motorsports like you mentioned work very well on the 2v. Ive seen a lot of guys use their stage 2 cams on a stock 4.6 2v. There are also a lot who use Comp Cams stage 1 and 2. You can get the "lopey" idle youre wanting by just going with a stage 1 cam set up though. Supposedly you can use most "stage 1" cams with stock valve springs but I would probably just replace them anyway if it was me. Most of them you wont lose driveability along as you dont go too big. You will need a tune right away. Many will say the gains arent worth the money especially if not doing the install DIY. But Im like you, I long for that lope! MHS uses Bullit cams and Ive heard good things about them too.

If degreed properly you shouldnt have any PTV issues either, but will have to shell out more money for a degree service.

Thanks, from what I've read I'd be an idiot if I chose not to have them "degreed."

Yup get the degree service. Cushman stage 1 are your best bet and will give you a nice bump in power. There's the least amount of risk with a degree service and stage 1 should just drop right in.
