MGW Shifter install

Got my MGW short shifter with a comfort handle today.

They package this thing so well. Very happy with that.

Check it out. It includes a new silicone gasket in the kit now. Very nice addition IMO. I've used the Cobra Bob gasket before and it worked well and this one looks even better fitting. I've also used the "make a gasket" stuff like Permatex and that works great too. The nice thing about the silicone gaskets is if you don't over tighten them, you can re-use them for when you change the tranny fluid.

Anyway, can't wait to get this bad boy on Lorraine!

That gasket looks 900x better than the leaky *** Cobrabob one. I swear to god I thought my tailshaft seal was leaking with the CB gasket until I figured it out and just used black RTV like I always used to do.

And yes MGW is top notch.

Changed my tranny fluid and installed the shifter today. Installation is pretty typical. Pouring the tranny fluid in the top of the shifter is pretty nice compared to laying on the floor lol. Not sure I'd take the shifter off just to change my fluid in the future though.

I used the RTV instead of the gasket. The gasket looks great and I'm sure I'd work fine, but it recommended using blue Loctite on the shifter mounting bolts and I didn't have any at home.

That extra dampening material is cool, but anyone can do this with there Tri-ax or Hurst shifter too.

The shifter is in first gear in ^this pic. I didn't sit in the drivers seat, so I may need to fiddle with the mount location. Feels great and can't wait to go for a drive!

Looks good. What is the dampening material? Would like a small peice of Dynamat work? Or like a thick rubber like you find in hardware stores used for shower pan liner, its pretty thick.

It seems like it's more foam like. Maybe with a little weight to it. It's about 3/8" thick.

Probably could use some kind of foam weather stripping or pipe insulation, etc

Awesome! MGW looks top notch, I'm sure you'll love it.

On a side note, where did you get the cigarette delete plug?

Now that I've had a few hours with it, I really like it. It's still stiff from being new, but I can easily get in all the gears. With that SR Performance shifter I had, it was tough to get into 5th and reverse lol. I did notice some annoying noise that transfers through the handle though. It's definitely not a deal breaker, but it's there. I bet it would be greatly reduced if I had used the gasket.

There was a guy on the mach1registry.org that was making them. He first made sweet looking headlight knobs, but I missed getting one. It was only $25. We've been trying to get him to make a nice coin delete.

Agreed, still shifts smoothly. Overall noise is quieter than the SR Performance shifter, probably because of that dampening pad. Very happy though.
