This is a speciality shop that only focuses on rear ends but is there a reason it wasn t making any noise till after I changed the gear ratio with the turner and after 140 miles into the break in period?

I agree.

The gears were not installed properly. Mistakes happen to the best of us. You are now hearing noise because there is likely excessive wear due to misaligned spider gears.

If you do it should be on the shop's dime. It should not cost you a thing.

Give them a call. If there a shop that has been around that long, it sounds like they should have no problem taking care of it. If they made a mistake but make it right, then kudos to them. I would start to wonder if they seem tentative about looking at it again or they try to blame parts failure or something.

Is there a way It could be for not following the correct break in pattern? Which i feel I ve doing or it just simply a bad gear job. I ve heard from some people that Ford gears don t need a break in period when installed correctly

If new gears failed because they needed to be broken in, millions of new cars sold each year would be grinding and whining.

If new gears needed to be broken in you would see track cars doing break in laps along with tire warm ups.

I'm a drag racer. My Mustang is not raced, but I raced bikes for years. Before that, I ran street trucks. My uncle raced drag cars. My dad raced drag boats. Drag racers break stuff. I think that is part of the admission fee. When you do a burn out, then launch at a high RPM, you are going to find a weak link somewhere.

All in all, you have a new set of gears that are not seated properly if they are making noise. If it's just a roar, it is possible a tech did not properly grease a wheel bearing. Mistakes happen, and hood shops correct their mistakes. A good shop wants happy customers that will tell others about the business. Happy customers are not only return customers, they are free advertisement and promotion.

They found the problem a loose abs senor screw that was causing the clunking, i should of mentioned that the abs light turned on shorty after but i thought those were brake related so thank goodness they didn t jack up the install and they gave me 3 free bottles of royal purple rear end oil for when i do my oil change, the car feels amazing again

That is great! I told you it would work out. I dont take my own advice though, I always get bent out of shape and expect the worst. Im a realist not a pessimist, thats what I like to think anyway.

Mine had a abs sensor issue too after the gear install, the light just flashed for a couple days tho, no noises. Then it went away and the abs works fine. The guy at the shop told me about it when I picked it up and he said it would probably be ok after a couple days. Probably a common issue. Yours doesnt sound as common but still makes sense now.

Your car looks great in white too by the way. Just got my plate today for my silver 03, first time Ive been able to drive it more than a couple miles. I think it has an IAC issue. A couple times after a WOT sprint, when slowing down Ill feel the rpms go up and down, and then when I stop it stalls all the way?
