Question about plastic piece on new shocks

I just got these shocks and one of these plastic parts on one was cracked when they showed up. I'm assuming it was damaged in shipping. Is this piece just there to cover the gasket at the end or does it serve another purpose? I'm planning to contact the place I bought these to see about exchanging this one.

I believe its just a cover like you said. Maybe you can affix it someway on there? I would still call the manufacturer for sure especially if they are warrantied, dont want to have it voided right away out of the box. Looks like you got the Koni STR.T shocks? If so I have them on one of mine and I like them really well. If you got them from AM they will take care of you right away on shipping damage like that. At least they have always taken care of me well when Ive had issues.

Yah I would get that replaced. That cover helps prevent debri and dust from getting trapped on the shaft. It's a last line of defense after the dust boot. As Steve said Konis are a good product, want to keep them in good shape.

If you ordered from a reputable vendor they should take care of that.

One of mine came that way as well, as long as it sits on top of the strut snugly, u should be fine, it's basically a secondary dust boot.
