Targa Top

Anyone thinking about doing a Targa Top conversion?

It can't be THAT hard to do the roof part can it? With one of those thin air compressor grinders

Can't you just use the part you cut off and throw some targa top latches on that and the car? Throw some weather strip and make sure it seals tight and even?

I always over simplify everything though haha, I know you have to do other stuff to prevent the frame from sagging.

Anyone out there wanting to do it? No write-ups out there I assume.

Wouldn't you have to invest into some body reinforcement aswell? you don't want to flex when launching.. I've seen my buddies vert flex from launching on slicks. lol and he had to junk the car.

Anyone out there wanting to do it? No write-ups out there I assume.

Yeah some reinforcement all around would probably have to be considered. I just feel like the actual cutting of the roof can't be that hard if you take your time, measure twice, and do it right...

Would it not be very clean looking? I've seen some that make it look like it is completely part of the car or came like that from factory. No idea how that is done though.

You'd have to take it to a very very good shop, I mean I've seen people install sunroofs and it looks clean but you will always see those guys who throw any sunroof without a curve and it looks like crap.

Its beautiful

Any one out there with some pictures of the edges of the roof? It'd be nice to see how they smoothed it out. I assume you could just grind it down smooth/flat and use weather stripping for a good seal.

Could probably use the same latches a convertible uses.

I got some metal sawzall blades today at work, gonna cut my roof of both my Mustangs in the morning. Probably use some JB weld, and such. JK.

It really doesnt seem like it would be that difficult, but Im sure it is, lol. I over simplify things as well. If you could pull this off, it would be awesome. I dont love verts usually but they look good with a targa top like in those pics.

Let us know and share some pics please if you do this!!

This is a job left to a professional shop and is going to take a big chunk of structural rigidity out of the car regardless. If you think you can just cut the roof and put on some edging and whatever and be g2g please stop.

I was hoping Scotty would come in and lay some truth down.

I was hoping to just spark up a conversation on it and explore the process a little. I wasn't sure if anyone out there was familiar with the process or not.
