Rear view camera install

I want to add a rear view camera to my 04GT and was wondering how to wire it up.. I see people grabbing power from the brake lights or reverse lamps.. Is there a difference? Are there any other ways to hook it up? TIA!

I wish I had a good answer. I think the head unit in my 02 is going bad. If I need to replace it I would like to go with a double sin unit with a back up camera and navigation.

The old Megellan died, and I'm tired of wasting my phone battery. Plus, there is no where convenient to put a phone to see the screen.

You need to pull power from the reverse light. That way it's only on when you shift into reverse. If your head unit has a reverse wire like mine does, you can use it. My camera came with an RCA wite that had a power wire corrected.

amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00RD05MOO/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?qid=1462628438&sr=8-3&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=Chuanganzhuo&dpPl=1&dpID=31FjKNzaSeL&ref=plSrch

This is the camera I used. Great picture. Can select normal or mirror image and if guide lines are shown. Mounted it right about my license plate.

This is what I did:

Amazon.com: Esky 170° Viewing Angle Universal Car License Plate Frame Mount Rear View Camera, 8 IR LED: Cell Phones & Accessories

Fed the wire up through the license plate light grommet. No holes drilled. Tap into the reverse light wire for power.

Was it pretty simple to install? What kind of head unit did you need for it?

Nvm figured out why. There's a wire meant to pick up on a 12 volt signal from the reverse lights and tell the radio to switch over. I accidently fed 12 volts to the tail lights at all times.
