AC Recharge?

My 96 has had ice cold AC until this summer. It started off cold a couple weeks ago and now its not at all. I think and hope it just needs a recharge as it has always worked perfectly and been extremely cold since Ive had it the past 6 yrs or so.

Has anyone done the recharge kit you can buy at parts stores? I have never used one and thought it was worth a try?

Be really careful with those kits, if you overcharge you won't get any cooling or worse you can blow out the compressor and that wouldn't be fun. If you have any friends at any local dealers you can ask them to bring in your car to get a proper evac and recharge to them it should be little to no cost. I work for BMW and I got my car's a/c recharged here I think it's like 3cents per oz of freeon.. If you want to take the task remember you have to monitor high and low pressure to properly recharge an a/c system. Bite the bullet and take it to a dealer if it has to come to that. Replace your drier also, it's fairly cheap and could solve your issue, a lot of people over look it.

I tried the kit a few weeks ago on my F150, easy job, and had enough left to top off the mustang as well. Ford wanted $180, the can was $50

You can do the advanced refill just be careful to not overcharge it because it will not cool down either..

Anyway bought some at Advanced Auto for $35. Checked to make sure my ac comp clutch was coming on and it was, so I then followed the instructions and checked the pressure every 10 to 15 seconds, emptied almost the whole bottle, doesnt feel like it will ever empty 100%. But the air is blowing as cold as ever now, and the pressure is in the good range. Prob the first recharge it has ever had in the past 20 years.

I used the A/C Pro and had great results as well...I know that my post is late but just wanted to let others know that someone else had positive results with the item.

I agree. The compressor oil we use has dye in it, so if your cars AC system has a leak it's easy to find.
