Hardtop Convertible!

Am I the only person that wants Ford to make a hardtop convertible Mustang?

I would love to see a functional hardtop from Ford.

There is an aftermarket, removable hardtop, but you would have to leave it at home when you went out for a cruise. Where I live you have to be ready to put the top up in a moment's notice due to rain.

They did in 1995. 500 Cobras and a few odd GTs and V6s. All of them were black with the peanut interior.

Yep and they are a ton of $$$ and I'd only want one from a collection standpoint. Rarer are the very few GTs and V6s that got them. The whole thing was a feeler for whether they were going to offer it as an option for all Mustangs in 96+ cars. Obviously they were not very popular.

I'd rather have a folding hardtop but you lose so much trunk space.

I love the idea of a convertible but not the lack of security and the cold winters with a cloth top so I guess I'm out of luck.

A Retractable hard top would have been awesome.
It would probably add a lot of weight, and be costly, though.

I don't really have winter. My convertible does just fine.

Still not a retractable hard top. Those tops can be purchased and function just the same. It is the equivalent of putting a hard top on a Jeep.

Yeah, when I first read this thread I had hopes it was a retractable top but I guess that was their first step in market research. Wish it went better so that we might have more options.

Not even as close to as good as the OEM 95 ones were.

I saw these back in the day and was thinking of getting a convertible and buying the hardtop shell...I am talking about a true folding hardtop...to me the roof line of the coupe looks better than the drop top and lasts longer!

I cannot disagree. I would love a true folding hard top like those found in BMW and Mercedes.

Yeah that looks a bit funky...that rear window in particular! I was wanting to see the new Mustangs in a hard top convertible...I would care about the extra weight personally! Mods could fix that problem! 😂

The Cobra top has a normal window. It is supposed to be molded after the factory hardtop convertible design.

For $1500 plus shipping, body work labor, and paint and materials, the price becomes ridiculous. It is not worth it to me.

Now, if Slimline donated a top for me to prep, install, and demo I would gladly give it a try and show off their product.

It is sort of odd. Ford is no stranger to retractable hardtops!

I know that they can do it...the question is why the hell have they not? In my opionion it would look so clean! My auto bucket list requires a drop top and an exotic to be complete...I guess that my drop top will be something old school unless Ford surprises us in the next few years!

It looks cool but at the same time (for me anyways) ruins the sleek design of the Mustang. They had to take out the rear seat and the way the roof has to be packed makes the cabin really small compared to the body length of the car. Stops looking like a Mustang and more like a long Mercedes.
