2001 gt engine swap

I recently bought a 2001 mustang gt that has a spun rod bearing or piston so I was just going to do a motor swap from my salvaged 2004 gt. I wanted to know if the 04 motor is worth rebuilding, heres what happened, i was on the freeway and it started overheating, my speedometer got stuck at 40mph and wouldn't go faster so I floored it trying to get off the freeway, then the car died and white smoke came out from the exhaust pipes, I'm thinking I cracked my heads, am I better off rebuilding the old 2004 motor or finding a new one, thanks in advance!

Why not take both engines and piece together one? If the money is there I'd go ahead and rebuild with forged internals just in case fi ever happens.

Well considering the old engine 2001 has about 210k thousand miles I don't think it has much life left, my budget is around 1200-1500 so I'm really really thinking about a police interceptor swap

You should be able to rebuild a bottom end with that much. Then everything heads and up can be old parts till you have money to upgrade them
