Remove hood scoop egg crate

Anyone know if the hood scoop egg crate insert comes out? I've tried prying and pulling but it won't budge and I don't want to damage anything. I need to repaint it. It's all faded and junk.

You have to take the scoop off from uner the hood just mask the scoop and paint the honeycomb part

That scoop is extremely flimsy and needs the insert. To remove the scoop Jeno is correct, you have to remove it from the underside of the hood.

Also there have been a few unlucky people who have removed it and did not add extra bracing for the scoop. The scoop ends up getting ripped from the hood at speed. I installed an OEM scoop on a v6 hood. I can tell you from experience that the insert provides most of the strength and rigidity.
