So i have been slowly working on the 2000 mustang gt. I put a 4.6l motor out of a crown vic into the car due to the old engines crankshaft being torn up from broken key in the crank gears. Now that the newer 4.6 is in the car and running, It has a lot of hesitation when really getting on the throttle. Also at times the rpm would stay high at a stop and fluctuate sometimes. IACV has been changed, TPS changed, MAF cleaned, cant find any vacuum leaks, new fuel filter and injectors.
Car has 3.73 rear gears, bbk cai with bbk throttle body and accufab plenum.
I hate to see the car sit while i scratch my head hoping it fixes itself so im reaching out to everyone in hopes i can have some fun this summer!
Any help on why it is running so poor would be appreciated!!
So I lifted the hood to play around in the engine and I noticed oily residue on pcv hose going into the intake side. Could this be a possible issue to my problem? What's the best way to correct the excess oil from going into the intake?
You can try either cleaning or replacing the PCV valve.
If you have already scanned for codes, and there are none present, all you can really do is start diagnosing the basics... Charging system test, Fuel pressure test, compression test, inspect for vacuum leaks, etc.
Accels are not an upgrade nor are they as reliable as stock but if they are new they are probably not the issue. Would have to think it is something not hooked up correctly or a vac leak somewhere.
Compression is good. Going to do a fuel pressure test this week and check again for vacuum leaks and I have another pcv valve that I can swap with the old one. The car sat for a long time before I bought it so the fuel pump could be gummed up?
Its the same engine, it should be a 100% bolt in and drive like nothing happened. Any 01-10 Panther 2V is this way but you want the 04-10s for the 8 thread heads.
Update: redid the pvc valve and hose going to intake and it did the trick! Finally able to spin the wheels through second gear! Now to figure out what the grind noise is when turning right when under acceleration.
Yeah the Steeda poly kits are real good, MM makes a good one too... honestly... the cheap Prothane stuff gets a real bad rap but works great. Except for motor mounts... If the stock rubber ones are good stick with those, otherwise get Energy suspension and prepare for a LOT of swearing and cursing if you don't drop the K member to do them.
Motor mounts are new from swapping engine so luckily I don't have to do them and ball joints are new. So pretty much everything else up front is getting redone. Can't wait to get started on it once it warms up a little bit more!
Yep, that's what's holding me up too. And a damn Jeep that needs to sell to give me the last shot of cash I need to get all the parts I want...
