Hey guys, I'm a mustang newbie. I just got a 2002 GT 5spd, previous owner had a lot of work done to it, but didn't really know what he was paying to have done. So my question is, what's this blue gear? It has a sensor reading on the side of it, but I don't know that I've ever seen this thing before.
All I'm sure of is Shorty headers(which I believe need gaskets, grrrr) 75mm dragon tb and Plenum, cia, and that's all I know of. Dude I got the car from says stock injectors and cams, and he claims the engine itself is remanufactured.
I have never seen anything like that on one of these cars. It looks like a "Hall Effect" sensor for a crank-fired ignition system.
Does the wire harness from the sensor part connect to anything?
After searching for crank fired ignitions, that appears to be what this is. I've yet to find this exact one however, and the slack in it makes me wonder if its part of my misfires I'm experiencing.
I actually have this. It's a Steeda timing adjuster. The three allen screws hold it in place. loosen them to adjust your timing. The sensor adjacent to it is the crank position sensor that is normally in the block. There are timing marks for advancing and retarding the timing.Info on use may still be available on the web.

Okay cool, I will have to see if I can find a manual on it. I tried tightening my Allen screws down but I've noticed the whole gear as well as the screws have some back and forth play in them, is yours pretty solid?
There should not be any play as it controls the engines timing. The whole unit is held in place with the front crank bolt that holds the balancer in place also, I would check it.
If you can't find info on line, I still have the install manual. I will scan and post.
It worked! Thank you very much, the torque rating should help me a lot when I check everything out this weekend.
