Another gear question

Putting gears in. Going with Richmond. Leaning towards 3.90's. Question: When I'm done, the car will have about 350 to 370 fwhp on the motor, with a possible 75-100 hp shot of spray, am I going to run out of gear? Also, putting in a Richmond Powertrax (spool), anyone have one of these? Will I notice a difference between 3.73 and 3.90?

Re: Another gear question

i think you will run out of gear yes. your bottom gears will be really short. if you plan on dragging it your bottom end will be way too short. a great set of tires will help but might be too short IMO

blk98gtvert: I know this is off the subject, but how do you like the BBK shorties? They're on my list.

Re: Another gear question

btw....if you plan on running the car on the street, a spool is a really bad idea....go with a limited slip or detroit locker if that is the case.

Re: Another gear question

3.73 in an auto is about right as the auto not only sucks more power but it has worse gears than the manual so... it will help make up for the difference, putting 3.73's in an auto is about like putting 3.55's in a manual (well not exactly but you get the idea)

but.. it all depends on when you run out of gear~ if you are doing quarter mile runs vs 8th~ you dont want to have to shift into another gear right before you pass the line.

Re: Another gear question

Scut95: Powertrax acts as limited slip until, you mash it, then its a locker. Thats why I'd like to know if anyone has one, to see if it works as advertised.

Ok, well that should be ok then....you said spool which is both wheels locked together, all the time, bad news for going around turns......unfortunately I am not running one and I don't even know anyone who is......specter is right about the gears, it all depends on what your doing. Usually rule of thumb is 4.10's for auto and 3.73's for manual on the street but it's your call
