my 01 gt findings

hey guys, so I've been looking into my 01 gt lately and have been finding some interesting stuff. so it's a late model 01 gt meaning it's a Romeo motor with the tr3650 trans. now lots of work has been done to the car before I got my hands on it. things like cams, gears, longtubes (had headers changed due to the longtubes being rotted out at the collector making for a terrible leak) exhaust, pullies, throttle body, frame connectors upper and lower control arms etc. etc... so yes it has some work and I've been doing more to it since such a wheels new stage 2 clutch and aluminum flywheel soon will be installing a new Victor Jr. intake and more. ok so first off the trans has red rtv all around the cases which tells me it's been opened up before and due to how it feels at 123k miles id say it doesn't surprise me. when the trans was out I noticed the car had an 8 bolt flange for the flywheel which caught my eye because I always thought only Windsor 2v's had 8 bolt cranks. so I thought maybe it's a Windsor motor. I then realized the car had Romeo heads ( 11 valve cover bolts and bridged cam caps instead of individual caps) also another thing is the block is painted red which means the motor has been out before for sure. what so you guys think the deal is think I just have Romeo heads bolted on to a Windsor bottom not original with the car? like I said it has cams and all so who knows what's been done to this motor. lmk what you guys think was done here? apologize for the very long write up but this caught my attention thanks for any responses.

It could be a Windsor. Ford did a bit of parts swapping in the early New Edge cars.

The transmission has definitely been apart before. The only TR3650 that was any good came in the 2004 model cars. The shift forks and other internals were improved.

As for the car itself; it sounds like you have acquired a fun project that already has a lot of work started.

Now, put up some pics. We want to see this beast.

yes it has a bit of work done to it and I've owned a mild bolt on 2v before this one and driven many and this is the quickest one I've driven I think the 4.10's cams and things like the control arms and such really help the car feel great it pulls very hard. id say the bottom end is a Windsor yes but it 100% has Romeo heads and the block is all painted red so for sure it's been out of the car and matched with Romeo heads just makes me wonder why it's been done maybe the motor has more to it then just cams? or did the original motor blow up and they just threw this in to get it going. the motor runs flawless blows no smoke at all won't burn a drop of oil or lose any oil at all I'm never adding oil or coolant and the coolant is always fresh green and clean. and its completely sound it runs like no motor at 123k miles would after being beat on since 01 has a great lopey idle too and moves real good. as for the trans I'd say it's been rebuilt as that also feels buttery smooth.

Are you trying to load pics using tapatalk? If so, the feature will not work.

Download the Mustang Evolution app. You will be able to post photos there.

I switch between tapatalk and the app. Tapatalk is more convenient for me.

Good looking GT. Great stance. The wheels are perfect in my opinion.

How well is the light output with the smoked headlights?

thanks I added the deep dishes in the rear and couldn't be happier with how they look I got them used with kinda junky 315's mounted on them but had good tread and looked good so for now they work. the output on the smoked head lights is not very good lol. with standard bulbs I couldn't see very much at all and now I added led bulbs which helped some but still not that bright. otherwise I love how they look, very aggressive

I’ve been able to post with Tapatalk Pro. Not sure what the difference is though.

Good 60K-70K examples going for $10-$12K out here. Must be REALLY bad especially that being a dealer price!

it's bad. 115k bone stock car. throwout bearing squeaks like hell needs a clutch, paint is faded mach 1 decals on the door are barely visable there so faded, a battery blew up under the hood so there's battery acid all over under the hood, all the tint is bubbling and pealing off the windows, headlights are trash and has a very ugly Roush front bumper, door panels held in by drywall screws etc. etc. it's just a bad excuse for a mach sucks to see an azzure blue mach in that kind of shape

Been in that boat before. Not enough money to buy what I want so I got the one I could afford and put a fortune into it, never do that again but I know for some lucky individuals it does pay off. Really helps if you can do body/paint, I see so many with new mechanicals and crappy bodies they cannot afford to fix right.
