With bluetooth obviously. Android mirrorlink or a full blown android unit would be a HUGE plus. And when I say "budget" I'm not expecting like a $150 unit or something.
Going to double DIN the Mustang when it gets here and then whatever else I get as a beater will get a HU as well, maybe not touchscreen but still.
I've heard really good things about Corehan android 7 double dins. However i personally haven't used it i know a couple people who praise them. they get pretty solid reviews. and can be had on Amazon for under 250.00 which is cheap. I will definitely try them if and when i go double din in my truck.
I wish I waited the extra 5 weeks for the 302a pkg in my f150 but my patience is almost non existent , but there's apparently a dash kit which retains original hvac buttons now for them.
As long as it'll interface with the Mach setup. For all the crap that was done to my car by whoever had it... the radio install was pretty ok as far as making the HU work with the Mach units. Although they did not wire in the stepdown so it popped whenever it was turned on. I fixed that already lol.
And I like this one a LOT. I'm big on stupid stuff like the bigger side buttons and the analog style volume knob. Could care less about any sort of optical drive because its 2018 and ppl who still use optical drives are the same as ppl who pay with checks at the grocery store.
Gonna wait until the car gets here tho before I go ordering anything. As soon as it gets here and everything checks out and I know it'll pass ITV the FIRST thing I'm ordering is a set of Steeda underdrives because I'm going to be redlining this thing like CRAZY with these roads here and consistent 7-7500RPM is going to blow up something on the accessories lol. Right after that... that Corehan looks awesome plus a backup camera and a sensor system because **** is tight here...
mach units is just a harness with some rca ends. just make sure you have a harness in there to allow integration of the factory amps. my gt has mach stereo and much better sounding when i can set the frequencies. when it comes to car audio this is my thing. been installing for years
and when it comes to working about your accessories, just inline fuse everything, I do anyways. and if youre worried about spikes in current you can run a little capactator to keep everything stable
Everything else is wired in properly and looks like its solid. The HU in there sounds great, just they didn't install the resistor. I wouldn't even remove the harness that is in there, just cut it close to the HU and then wire into that with a good solder job and shrink tubing. Easy.
Will be more of a PITA to hide the wires for the GPS and the rear backup camera but that's not really hard just a pain. And the microphone... And the USB for the phone under the console into the storage bin lol.
oh there's tons of room behind, you'll be fine. for the mic just run up and put infront of steering wheel on the dash, wires tuck in nicely. easy quick job and it sounds the best there imho.. everything else is a sinch.
and why leave harness in. just unclip from oem harness and you'll have tons of room to solder and can add any leads you may want to extend. espcially if youre doing more work later like camera ect. makes life easier when you can slide whole unit out but everything still nicely wrapped and strapped neatly. just my ocd i suppose lol
I'd have to take a pic... there is some weird block in there that the wires go to and out into the Mach system. I mean the system sounds REALLY GOOD even being the stock Mach460 system so I dunno if its some trick an actual shop used or what? They very well might have done it right and some idiot put a new HU in and didn't wire in the resistor I dunno.
Regardless there is still plenty of room, would only be adding like 4" of wire total and wrapping it and tucking it is easy. I'm OCD about cable management too. This is the inside of my computer if that gives you any ideas lmao.
Are you going to use the stock amps/speakers, etc? Honestly, that's the only reason I haven't bought a new head unit. I don't want to replace any of that biz, especially since it all still works fine (not the OEM head unit). I'm not into great stereos anymore, but everyone says it sounds like poo with the OEM Mach 460 or 1000 wired up to work with aftermarket head units.
yeah that's some tidy wire management. satisfying actually lol. id have to see a picture of this block you speak of. could just be an ancient adapter or an over kill piece with steering wheel controls ect.... but it should be a fairly tidy harness with a couple rca leads. or at least the most current ones are
and stock speakers and amps sound great with aftermarket head units. espically if the particular unit allows control of hpf filter. just have to get an after market plug and play harness. and 2 1k ohm resistors to change the amp remote turn on from 12 down to 6 as mach 460 and 1000 units use a 5.6 volt turn on.... I have the 460 and with oem deck id get clipping on low frequencies with after market i turned the mega lows that the little speaker cant hit down a bit and it sounds super clean
Yeah stock everything minus the HU. However they wired it in they did it right minus the resistor. Sounds amazing, or it did last time I used it lol.
Once it gets out here and passes ITV and everything I'll start doing the little stuff like the HU, camera, UD pullies so I can spin to 7K and not worry about the PS pump or alt or AC blowing up and then... that'll be it really. For awhile. I'll probably do UPR K, a arms and coilovers next fall/winter because I wanna drive this car around during peak season when I can show it off the most. This place becomes "south beach" during summer here apparently.
Its not conservative NOW... And yoga pants and distressed jeans are everywhere. I will say from experience overseas before that European ppl outdress the **** out of Americans as a general rule.
Yes there is a mustang club on base and like 3 or 4 of them are ppl I work with. 2 Coyotes, a V6 edge, my edge and a 2010 V6. Apparently they do cruises and there are on-base car shows. I do think I may be the only 10-down 4V car here tho... have not seen any Edge Cobras or GT500s or Terminators or anything...
I'll have to post pics of the house I found too once the contract is fully locked in. I about **** myself when I toured the house and am like "wait I get this?". Lets just say I'll be in the ocean a LOT...
Sounds like it’s worth it to try a HU with the OEM system after all. I want a clean sound over super loud, so it’d be a waste of money . I always used to put low freq chokes on my door speakers back in the day to keep them from too much bass. That’s nice they have that built into the units now lol. I’ll try to remember the resistor too. I think I’ve read that before. Thanks
Clean high quality is great. Same with exhausts. The loudest and most obnoxious stangs are often some of the slowest. Same with sound systems.
Got data on my phone finally today... well the new phone that took 10 days to get to Spain. And its GREAT. Dolby digital out I can already tell a huge difference in the basic bluetooth connection on the rental VW I have. Should be great mirrored to an android HU via a USBC cable. Easy on the stang. Run a USBC cable under the console to the armrest storage and drop phone in and done.
Ok what about single DIN? The way my shifter is is going to make a Double DIN kinda useless now that I actually have the car here with me and am driving it again.
i use to run pioneer year s ago but since been turned off , but truthfully any single din with BT and functions to adjust HPF. maybe higher voltage if youre planning on amplifying anything down the road.... but since you're using mach 460 for now its users choice really...
i have a jvc ive been really happy with for 2 project cars now , actually make that 3 my SHO had it in it too lol. Clean BT good bt functionality and lots of tinkering options
The Kenwood DPX series. I have the Older model DPX500BT, Absolutely NO complaints. It works with my Android, Bluetooth, WIFI etc. The Newer models are even better.
Has all the stuff I want and is low profile. No CD player, I have not used an actual audio CD I think in 5 years? I have a Youtube Red/Google Play Music subscription for $10/mo plus the USB input for a low profile USB stick loaded with all my music if I don't want to stream. Not sure why ppl still use CDs honestly...
I’m gonna get on my laptop and take a closer look at this unit. This might be just right for me too. I can remember the last time I brought CD’s out to one of our cars to listen to either.
Do you still use/recommend the install kits and harnesses from Crutchfield?
I wanted a double DIN till I really sat in the car and looked... If there was a kit that mounted the HVAC in the cubby area and put the double DIN up top it'd be great.
I have seen a few custom jobs like this but I'm not up to that now... plus I use the cubby a lot being military and having to get my ID out all the time so I put my wallet there.
The new Pioneers have the ARC app anyway which basically links your phone to the headunit so I can get a mount for the phone and then that's my touchscreen.
Food... it really depends on what you like. If you like Mediterranean food, seafood and really good pork you'll love it. A lot and I mean a LOT of Americans hate it tho. I like it and if I want a really good burger or BBQ or nachos I'll just make them at home honestly.
Beer is garbage here, wine is REALLY GOOD. Liquor is REALLY GOOD.
I like it here well enough. Going to hold off final verdict till the summer tho when you can really enjoy being here.
Thanks for that reply. Good Info to know. I do Appreciate Good food, remembering my days in the Military and visiting different Countries. I believe in my pics on here there is a pic of my Double Din unit. It does all that stuff also. Anyway, have Fun and Enjoy yourself.
Thanks man. Thanks for your service too. Definitely enjoy this and enjoyed going all over the place when I was aircrew. I still miss Germany the most... I'll be TDY there probably enough times while I'm here but we are going to try to go there next and then see about possibly getting a job at Ramstein when I retire. Opportunities to make big $$$ there are pretty good...
Yeah that's where I usually get them but I don't need to this time since there is already an aftermarket radio in there. Just cut off the Clarion harness and wire in the Pioneer.
I also got the Panavise mount for 94-04 cars that screws into the HVAC mounting screws and puts a solid bracket directly by your right hand as it rests on the steering wheel. I did read on the reviews that the steering wheel can obscure the phone a little but that's fine, I'd rather have it within easy reach when I need it and it doesn't look like it'll be too bad. Will make it very easy to control the headunit with the Pioneer app.
I'm looking into the Dacia next for a mounting solution. Apparently Renault makes an OEM one that works on the Dacias but only some, need to find out of the mount is compatible.
Just need this stuff to hurry up and get here... I can only listen to so much AFN radio...
