New cams

Im wanting to put new cams in my pony. what kind and how much? its my daily driver so nothing to big just want something more than what i got. Also will i have change out the timing gears or can i use stock. And what is the easiest way to change them out?? thanx

gears can be reused, and they do make a tool for the 2 valves to actually hold the sprocket in place with the valve cover removed to swap cams out. the only thing is that since u are pi swapped, the combustion chamber is alot smaller than stock, so u would have to watch the lift because piston to valve clearence diminshed when u put the pi heads on your stock npi block. comp cams are good cams, as hi tech since i have heard good things about them too. as far as cams safe to run without fly cutting the pistons, i have a list but ill have to find it.

what is the benefit of swaping cams... what excatly to they improve... sorry dont know much about the mechanical aspect of engines.

well they are more efficient than the stock cams, and allow more air in and out to produce more power. some have higher lifts than other, but on modular motors you have to watch the clearance between the piston and valves. you can run stage 2 cams without problems most of the time, and u get a nice power gain, also a more aggressive idle.
