Blew My Motor In My 2002 GT...

I blew the motor in my 2002. (60 years old and still blowing motors!) We had to get something to use while I'm getting it fixed. Here's a couple pictures of '02 and the car we bought to fill in.

Anyone know of any good deals on a 2002-2004 4.6/5.0 (stroker) motor?

I know where you can get a complete ford racing remanned 03/04 cobra longblock for about $4k.

Re: Blew My Motor In My 2002 GT...

Brent,
Don't really know, yet. Hit passing gear to get on the freeway and I got kind of a belch in the motor, lots of white smoke that smelled like coolant blowing out the tailpipes, then it lurched to a stop. When you crank it over the sound is like a can full of rocks coming out of the passenger side.

Just guessing, it either dropped a valve or blew a head gasket, hydro locked and broke a piston and/or rod. What ever it is, it sure sounds bad. I bought the car new and have put 177,000 miles on it since January 2002.

PV,
Thanks, but I have to stick with the two-valve. November has been a tough month. I broke the input shaft on the 3550 in the red Mustang and then did this bad thing to the 2002. The Bullitt helps my feelings, though.

Dang, sucks...but an upgrade is always good.

I figured 170k miles is pretty good for a sports car lol.

d.s.s. has stroker mod's displacing up to 5.3 liters now. another good reccommendation is boss 330 racing. al pappito is a modular guru. lethal performance deals with both companies too.

Sorry to hear about your GT

But GOOD LUCK with the new purchase! Great looking car - any plans for it? Or are you planning something better for the '02? If you ever tear into the '02s engine.. Let us know the carnage!

Thanks for the good wishes. I think I may have found the problem.

Can you tell what it is? Here's a hint. It used to connect a piston to a crankshaft. It is now hanging out through the bottom of the oil pan.

Yep, pretty ugly.

Does anyone on this thread know if the Lincoln Mark VIII 4.6 aluminum engine the same, essentially, as the GT 4.6? Do they interchange?

Re: Blew My Motor In My 2002 GT...

The Mark VIII 4.6 is more similar to the 96-98 Cobras. Cobra had forged steel cranks while the Mark VIII had 8 bolt cast cranks. As far as putting it into your GT I have no idea what would be involved as far as the finer details.

Re: Blew My Motor In My 2002 GT...

I found a very inexpensive, complete Mark VIII engine. I'm only interested in the aluminum block...not the heads.

Curious if the aluminum block would work with all my GT stuff. Could really save some weight on the front end.

The heads are the same as the 2001 Cobra, except for the cams, of course.

Thanks! I have the parts to fix the 1992 GT and it should be back on the streets by Monday. I've been dinking around and haven't rushed. We're putting a McLeod blow-proof bell housing and that takes a bit of time to fit.

Reluctantly, I may have to sell the 2002 to offset the other two. Other than the blown motor, it's been a really great car and, excluding the latest incident, has always brought me home.

Hahaha that's not just supposed to stay in the block, it's supposed to stay attached to the crank

Definite carnage

Good luck with whatever plan

I would offer money for the car as it sits if I could!

Re: Blew My Motor In My 2002 GT...

Monte,
Just for mental exercise, if money, say up to $25K, were not an object of consideration, And if, after seeing the parts list, what would you offer for me for my car, knowing the engine has a broken rod.

Give me a serious, realistic bid, you would offer on the car. I'll post more pictures if needed.

This is a game and the bids are make-believe. The object is to see what it's worth. Anyone can jump in the game.

I don't know the car is in great shape, but needs a motor, at least a bottom end.. assuming head was damaged also, depending on circumstances, possibly not and does have 177k miles on it.. Don't know where I'd hypothetically begin even if it is just hypothetical

the mark 8 motor is also known as the teskid block, which is very sought out. if u do get a chance to get it, jump on it. the strength of that block is a beast lol. the top end of your gt will bolt up fine with no issues, keep the timing cover etc.

Re: Blew My Motor In My 2002 GT...

When I took my current job they asked me what type truck I wanted. I said , "Mustang", and they gave me x money to purchase the car and then a liberal travel allowance travel allowance. So, I covered TN, MS. AL, KY, some GA, VA, FL , and so on with it since. About 85% of those miles were for my company.

As I think about it, I'd love to repair the 2002 and continue to use it for my work and not rack the miles up on the Bullitt. It's too special a car to use as a truck.

That is the COOLEST thing anyone's said to me in a while! I consider it a compliment to all us old guys. I'm printing this and hanging it on my bulletin board at work.

It's hard for me to believe I'm 60 years old and still there's so much to learn from you young guys. (BTW, I've apprenticed myself to a really good hot rod mechanic when I'm not working my regular job.)

Life has been so good to me and I really believe the best time I've lived, so far, is today and the best, most fun accomplishments are yet to come.

are we still bidding?

Id say $10-12k for it, given its in great condition and decent mileage with running motor. without running motor, id say 6-8k. Personally id keep it if you can, and build it into a nice beast, redo that 2v, make it a modular 5.0 and work over the heads (or throw on some DOHC love) and throw on a vortech or procharger.

Re: Blew My Motor In My 2002 GT...

It's as tight as new because it hasn't been beat on. It does have 177,000 miles that I have personally put on it since January of 2002. So, you might want to revise your offer.

Apologies for the large picture file but I wanted you to see it clearly. It's a fine car.
